It seems that on the very same day that those poor high school students were killed by a speeding driver in Sanxia, these “drivers’ rights” clowns were out protesting AGAINST pedestrian rights!
National Automobile Driver’s Rights Alliance president Liu Hong-chang (劉鴻樟) said the voices of drivers should also be listened to.
“Pedestrians who cross the street when the signal is red, or who fail to pay attention while using pedestrian crossings, should not be fined merely a few hundred dollars,” he said.
“Compared with the penalties imposed on drivers, fines for misbehaving pedestrians are disproportionately low. This stark disparity in punishment would lead to frequent conflicts between pedestrians and drivers,” he added.
The fine are different, you clown, because pedestrians don’t kill people like drivers regularly do. These people are completely tone deaf.
But yeah. It’s almost like the pedestrian running out and getting hit mostly affects who? Oh right, you. Now your shit-ugly BMW X3 has pedestrian brains on it. Gonna have to pay to get that cleaned up. And a bit of detailing work for where their head watermeloned on your hood. Truly unfortunate.
Not exactly sure why, but when I see these things I’m reminded of the silly jokes I used to hear as a kid growing up in Holland about people from Belgium (apologies to our Belgium compatriots.) A Belgium guy is walking around with a car door. A Dutch guy walks up to him and asks him why he’s carrying around a car door and he replies, “ Well, when it’s hot out I can just roll down the window and catch a cool breeze.”.
Freaks protesting with their kids and grandkids in 3, 2, 1…
Sidewalks in Taiwan are like cycle paths in most parts of the world. There are some patches built here and there without real connectivity. Like let’s build a sidewalk around this school like it’s a wall around a medieval city, kids can then teleport from their homes to the sidewalk, then walk 5 meters into the school.
Then they’re underused because you’d still had to walk 90% of the time in unwalkable places. So, politicians and various lobbies can say “see, no pedestrians, let’s not build more”.
I think I have been there before, but probably encountered more crazy stuff and forgot about this.
Maybe what they are trying to tell people by the 12 seconds limit is:
“Pesky pedestrians, do not interrupt the traffic and do not cross the road here.”
Something like the recent banking thread.
Elderly, mothers with baby strollers, disabled or just anyone too tired to sprint are going to avoid this zebra, as long as their life is precious to them.
