How do you know when century eggs are bad?

We were given some by a friend and I’d forgetten them for a while. While I don’t know how old they were when I got them in the first place, is there any way to tell if they’ve turned bad?

Still, don’t blame me for any nasty consequences if you eat them.

Interesting – how many foreigners would actually choose to eat these? Generally I don’t like them, but one day I ordered one with some soft tofu and those fish flakes on top. I got half way through then I remembered why I don’t really like them.

Well the cat had some and didn’t keel over and die.
I suppose they’re ok.

If you don’t look and pile on the sauce they actually taste quite good.

If?

I love them. Bloody delicious when soft, mixed up with soft tofu and with a little soy sauce on top. They’re so damn good. Pidan dofu mmmmmm.

My first experience of these eggs was when I’d only been here a few months. I thought ‘what the heck I’ll try anything once’ and gobbled a mouthful, no soft tofu, no nothing. RANK, NASTY, UGH! I quickly stuffed my mouth with white rice to get rid of the taste. I’ve not dared to even look at one to this day.

I love 'em. Especially with the dofu and the soy sauce. Hate those fishy flakes though…

I suggest that you send the questionable ones to Maoman. After he eats them he will let you know if they were OK. That information will be useful for your reference in dealing with similar matters in the future . . . .

Or . . . . perhaps send one to every Moderator on this website???

Those are the most wretched things in the world. Fear factor uses them alot.

Don’t eat more than 2 century eggs a week. That’s the government’s recommended weekly maximum intake of century eggs.

Why is that? Cholesterol? Kidney stones (I’m guessing).

Flatulence.

One well placed fart could level an entire block…

Who in hell wants to eat an egg thats been pickled in piss?

Flatuelence from a rotten egg! That has to be bad!

The government warning probably came from some ministry of environmental protection or some such.

Daltongang: Perhaps I should say, inedible rather than bad? Would you call cheese bad?

Hartzell: Unfortunately, they’re all gone now.

Spack: Century eggs aren’t very good by themselves. You HAVE to add the sauce.

Yeah, I found that out afterwards! :frowning:

Spack: So… how did you find out if “I’ve not dared to even look at one to this day”?

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly are ‘Century Eggs’?? Are you talking about tea eggs, or thousand year old eggs, or something completely different?
