How do you say Halloween?

Growing up in Ontario, people around me always seem pronounce Halloween as ‘Ha-lloween’. I’ve noticed that online, people, in particular, Americans on YouTube seem to say it as if the first syllable sounds the same as hall, like Hall-oween.

This video has both pronunciations, confirming that I am not crazy…at least according to 9/10 doctors. I’m curious, how do you say Halloween?

I say it the right way.

Well what is the right way?

The way I say it.

how-low-Wean

Hal-lo-ween.

[ˈhæ l ʌ in]
ha (as in ‘hat’) - luh - ween
I never noticed I say ‘Halluween’ instead of ‘Halloween’!

As in Halo…

Hello-ween was the way I did it until now XD

I say both hal-oween and hall-oween, pretty much interchangeably. No rhyme or reason why I choose 1a or 1b, as far as I’m aware.

Um, Hallow, as in Holy, and e’en, as in, evening.

Hallow e’en.

Ring any bells?
