Talking to a friend earlier and he mentioned that today Taiwan has 4 exchanges. I’m trying to remember what he said they were before I ask him again.
Taiwan Stock Exchange TWSE
Taipei Exchange TPEx (formerly Gre Tai) for companies that want to eventually list in the TWSE
A development exchange like Shanghai’s STAR market - for companies that want to list on the TPEx someday
Is the TWO an OTC market for Taiwan? And would it be between the TWSE and the TPEx??

Two by my count now, four in the future(see ending ) , second one is: Taipei exchange Taipei Exchange
Differences between exchanges (use translate, did not find English) Taipei Exchange > TPExについて > 株式市場取引制度
Soon , new branch sort of the Taipei exchange so maybe four in total: NEW or soon (1) Pioneer Stock Board (PSB) (2) The Emerging Stock Market (ESM)

I guess what I’m wondering is if there is a Taiwan OTC exchange that is distinct from the TPEx (formerly the GreTai Exchange).
According to this webpage, it seems the TPEx took over OTC trading when it was formed (as the GreTai) in the 90’s?
https://www.tsfvm.com.tw/en/a01.aspx?id=3
This page is not well written. The text at the top of that webpage explains that OTC trading began in 1988 among members of the Taiwan Securities Dealers Association.
Then the TPEx was “established” on 1 Jan 2014 and being mandated to take over OTC trading then (2014? Hang on…). A little further down, the timeline begins by saying the TPEx was started in Nov 1994 and began doing OTC trading then (also!?).
I think this means that the TFDA started OTC trading in 1988 and the GreTai exchange took it over when it started in 1994. In 2014, the GreTai was rebranded as the Taipei Exchange (TPEx), and OTC trading continues there.
Does this sound right? Can anyone post any links (in Chinese or English) that explains how many stock exchanges there actually are in Taiwan as of 2021?

I’m also curious about the development exchange, which I think would be equivalent to the AIM in London , the STAR Market in Shanghai , and the GEM in HK . I do not know how successful those stockmarkets have been, but having something in Taiwan where young companies can become available to a secondary market of interested investors is promising.
What is the name of the new exchange being proposed?
AIM (formerly the Alternative Investment Market) is a sub-market of the London Stock Exchange that was launched on 19 June 1995 as a replacement to the previous Unlisted Securities Market (USM) that had been in operation since 1980. It allows companies that are smaller, less-developed, or want/need a more flexible approach to governance to float shares with a more flexible regulatory system than is applicable on the main market.
At launch, AIM comprised only 10 companies valued collectively a...
