Curious, how much do djs at the house bars in Taipei get paid?
If you are resident at one of the bigger clubs, about NT$2,000-NT$6,000 an hour. A lot of DJs here start off by playing music in exchange for beer at smaller bars. (A great way to become an alcoholic, by the way.) If you are a foreigner, keep in mind spinning on the weekends at bars counts as illegal work, but I’ve only heard of one incident where they’ve taken someone to the police station. These big name “Knuckles” and “Oakens” that have shows here are also working illegally–most clubs can’t arrange work visas for these big names, due to Taiwan’s draconian foreign labor laws.
