How often are cars stolen in Taiwan?

I’ve never seen a news report or heard a story or seen any data or statistics on stolen cars in Taiwan.

Is it at all common and where like in Taipei and big cities or small towns?

Only around 1500 a year reported, ~20% from Taoyuan, New Taipei & Kaohsiung ~ 10% each. Most stolen are higher end cars. The move to more “community style” residences with indoor parking has helped decrease theft in cities.

Theft from parked cars is a much bigger issue.

In 2019, there were approximately 1,456 automobile theft cases known to the police in Taiwan , around 800 cases less than the previous year.

Machinery and trucks are far more frequently sold. Used to be quite bad up north, vin/id replaced and sold down south. Still fairly common. Cars seem pretty low in taiwan.

And scooters. Today there was this case someone used a cellphone to steal a Gogoro. Then stole a helmet from a nearby normal scooter and drove away.
