I doubt if anyone is disagreeing they are all corrupt and none are ultra ethical. But surely you must be able to see the differences between these groups. It’s not black nor white, 50 shades of grey perhaps. There is a HUGE difference between these groups. They are all corrupt, sure, but far from the same.
The nazis and the xyz other nation’s governments’ are all corrupt as well. But surely there are tiers of bad, no? I would take say new Zealand over nazi Germany or ccp China fairly confidently. Their diapers are different and their loads are as well.

The Chinese KMT has done nothing to help its cause, back in the day in Taiwan this level of treason would put them in front of a shooting squad or on green island. The old KMT is gone, they have gone full on hard dick for PRC…no pitty as they are actively promoting their own betrayal of Taiwan.
If anything, the return of local politicos including the Yen family shows that the old KMT very much remains! That was part of the old bargain: the mainlander elite enjoyed their perks in Taipei, called all the significant shots (some literal in the case of 228 and White Terror), while the local factions and politicians (this would include the Yens) were allowed to line their pockets locally. That was the bargain, that was the deal, that enabled the KMT to rule for decades. And while the mainlander elite has lost its monopoly on executive power in Taipei, at least for now, the local corrupt KMT seems unfortunately to be back in full force.

Huang Shao-ting (黃紹庭) of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and 16 others have been called for questioning in a case involving suspected embezzlement of public funds.
“Welcome back to Taiwan, Councilor. You’re under arrest.”
In a statement issued Friday via the main opposition Kuomintang’s social media group, Huang responded that the China trip had already been on his personal agenda.
He denied knowing about the search beforehand and said he had not tried to avoid the investigation.
The councilor said he told investigators of his planned trip after learning about the search on Thursday and said he would report back when he had finished managing his affairs in China.

This guy is allegedly involved in the apparently popular scheme of skimming the salaries of (or simply inventing the presence of) assistants, i.e. pocketing public funds.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s phishy and worthy of investigation. But ya, witch hunts are all too common in Taiwan. Its something I quite dislike about taiwan: the arena people give the title of justice here.

Taiwanese activist Sung Chien-liang, who is affiliated with the Taiwanese nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) party, wore a Nazi armband and held a Chinese translation of Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” at the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office where he was summoned for questioning.
Sung has been accused of signature fraud on the petition to recall a DPP lawmaker.
Yesterday I have been wondering, how many people actually died during the White Terror era in Taiwan?
I have heard, that many people were thrown tied up to the river, making Tamsui very horrible and disgusting place, but in school they teach, that people were “just” shot.
And knowing what happened in Europe, it is certain it is just tip of the iceberg of what happened here too.
That era finished not so long ago and obviously the accomplices or their children are still around here in Taiwan.
I find it quite alarming, that someone even dares to come out and present himself like this wearing nazi band and doing their salute.
The throwing people into Tamsui river, Keelung harbor and other places, with barbed wires going through their palms, linking them up one by one, was more of a 228 thing. I guess the 228 and White Terror were more or less one continuous period, but a narrower definition of White Terror is from 1949 to 1991.
At least 8,296 people are recognized officially as victims who died because of White Terror. Many more were imprisoned for political or no particular reason at all. For 228, it’s hard to get a concrete number, since many of the killings were indiscriminate, but it is estimated to be between 18,000 to 28,000 killed.
Major incidents during the White Terror period includes: April 6th incident: NTU and NTNU Students were arrested for protesting against police beating up students. July 13 Penghu incident: 300 Chinese teachers and students from Shandong were killed in Penghu for resisting being drafted into the army. Lok-khut incident: An entire village arrested for possibly harboring communists. Over 30 dead, over 400 arrested. Ting Iáu-thiáu incident: Ting told her friend to keep a distance from a pursuer, and he got jealous, so he planted a censored book her Ting’s desk and told the police that Ting was a communist. Multiple people confessed that they were communist under police torture, including Ting’s friend that sick bastard wanted to date, and were executed. Ting was already pregnant when she was arrested, and gave birth to a daughter in prison. Her daughter saw Ting dragged away for her execution when she was 3. Her daughter jumped on her back and pleaded that Ting was a good person, and for the guards not to execute her mother. The guards pulled the girl off from her mother by pulling her hair so hard a whole bundle of hair was ripped off her head. 51 people arrested, 14 executed.
One important distinction is that the White Terror employed courts and fake judicial proceedings to give it a veneer of legality. Much like what we see in China today.
The 228 Incident mainly involved extra-judicial killings and summary executions by military personnel.
Sometimes the distinctions get blurry, such as the notorious case of Chen Wen-chen’s (陳文成) murder / dumping of his body on the NTU campus. I don’t think there was much “vaneer of legality” there, just free rein and impunity for Taiwan’s notorious Garrison Command.
One possible interpretation is that during/after the Kaohsiung Incident, Chiang Ching-kuo’s regime decided that the judicial system was too susceptible to outside pressure to deliver reliable results. So they turned to criminal organizations to do their dirty work. The Henry Liu case and quite possibly the Lin family killings are examples.
But the Chen Wen-chen case doesn’t fit neatly into that interpretation. It seems to me possible that he was injured so seriously during interrogations that they decided he had to be disposed of. Perhaps because he was going to die or perhaps because they knew he would go public about torture.
The problem with transitional justice in Taiwan has been that it has only discovered victims but no perpetrators.
