How to bring parent to Taiwan as a dependent?

It seems that this is going on. A CA I talked to told me he helped multiple people with this situation…

Yes paid minimal salary and she got NHI

A company can only have one manager role so it doesn’t work for both parents

You can also hire specialists, there’s different requirements for those roles

That’s brilliant!

Bummer but I wonder what the requirements could be for other roles.

However, it is good that if an elderly parent is alone you can use this trick

another parent can get a dependent visa as a spouse, if they are not divorced.

The same with any other foreigners.

Until the kids finish high school/college and get the boot. If they are not studying/dependents, out they go.

it is interesting that in those old threads, people talked citizens could bring parents or oldies could be dependents.

at least in immigration act, who can get arc was not clearly specified till 2008. did some people actually bring parents as dependents back then?

besides, between 1993 to 2007, only 10 or so us americans did naturalization. if there were many old parents of citizens from the us, most of them should be dual citizens.

Can you share the contact info for that CA? I am kind of in a similar situation. Dad suffering from Alzheimer’s. I want to bring him over. Also, thinking of hiring a caretaker for him.

if she or you are a big company’s executive or earn enough, can hire a live-in home helper. home helper cannot be a caregiver, though.

From what I understand, when you apply for a work visa it has to get approved by the ministry of labor. If it’s for a company manager role and your company meets the 5m capital investment / 10m revenue, it’s a very straight forward case and they’ll give you max permit length (It took around 2 weeks for me to get the work permit approved).

If applying for other roles such as specialist, they might scrutinize resume more like whether they have 5 year work experience in relevant fields, etc. I think for specialists the salary requirement for foreigners is also higher, maybe around 60k / month.

Probably company manager for one parent, and the dependent visa for another parent like the other poster mentioned would work.

From what I know the requirements to get ARC for a company manager are not that strict. Basically 500k NT in foreign currency transferred from abroad. That’s it. Also, it can be a new company without revenue so far. That will be required later (after 1 or 2 years) in order to extend this manager’s ARC…
As for the other positions as Tando mentioned it is more complicated…

thank you, very helpful.
if I have APRC, and my children are not 18 yet, can they apply for APRC too? they have been here more than 10 years.

it depends on how and when you get APRC.

If you get your aprc as a foreign professional/foreign special professional/foreign senior professional, your dependents can apply for their aprc 5/3/0 years after you get aprc, and financial and age requirements are exempted.

Ya I wonder how that would work. let’s say the parents have had an aprc for over 10 years, and the child has had a JFRV since birth based on parents Aaprc. after they are 10, having a JFRV for 10 plus years (or whatever the normal time period requirement is now: 3, 5 10 etc) could they then get their own APRC? Loads of JFRV gain APEC based on marriage to a Taiwanese national. Could this also work?

If it does work, would they still get the boot when they become adults?

As I have noticed from mone and various friends and coworkers, the APRC process seems a bit.more involved case by case with more attention paid to the specific situation. for example the money requirements are often ignored when coming from a JFRV. I wonder if it would be similar with children and jumping up from JFRV to aprc might get more scrutiny but in a possibly good way. Unlike regular visa types which seem more or less tick the boxes, get your stamps type of situation.

I think that’s the entrepreneur visa rather than a company manager? The one I’m using is a 3 year work permit for a company manager (where I’m already the company director). Here are the requirements on this website:

https://ezworktaiwan.wda.gov.tw/en/cp.aspx?n=9E8A5D365CE90CA6&s=ECCAEED854516EE4

“1.For domestic companies established less than 1 year, documentation of paid-in capital of NT$5 million or more, revenue of NT$10 million or more, real import/export totals of US$ 1 million or more, or agency commission of US$ 400,000 or more; for those established 1 year or more, documentation of revenue for the most recent year or the average of the last three years of NT$ 10 million or more”

But yeah maybe the entrepreneur visa works too. Though that’s for a new company, 1 year visa duration and needs to show revenue growth in order to renew. For the company manager visa you can just have your parents tag along your existing Taiwan company without much extra costs (your company pays their NHI, and their salary is low enough that it should be fully tax deductible.

Actually I referenced to following kink The Director or Manager of an Approved Business Invested or Established by Overseas Chinese or Foreigner(s)
As you can see the requirements are simple. No need qualification certificate. 500k NT investment capital. As for the revenue requirement, it started from 2nd or even 3rd year and not so huge (3M instead of 10M).
