How to close an old bank account?

Hi, I’d like to know if anyone has experience closing out an old bank account. Back in 2019, I created a bank account when I studied in Taiwan. To do this, I got a national ID number from the immigration agency. I’d like to return to Taiwan to withdraw the remaining money in the account and close it.

My concern is that the passport I used to create the account is expired, and the passport number on my renewed passport no longer matches the number listed on my bank documents and national ID number. Does anyone know if this will be a problem in withdrawing the cash?

Bring your old passport?

Also, do you have the passbook? Of course bring that too.

I don’t think it will be a problem (it’s a predictable situation) but set aside a couple of hours

If possible, do it at same branch as where account was open, as it has original paperwork.

Why not just withdraw the money and leave the account dormant?
You are going to waste a load of time and questions for what?
And who knows in say ten years, you may return and there is an account you could start using again.
I didn’t bother closing my account. I left about 1000NT in it when I left in 2020.

With the interest rates paid by banks here, that should now come to around (punches calculator fiercely, Juice Media style) . . . NT$1003!
