How to deal with autism/aspergers

This is a great idea. Problem is that for people with Asperger’s, standing in front of even a few people (strangers) and trying to engage them in learning stuff is physically painful. He’d probably need to partner up with someone who’s a natural talker (maybe an ex-English teacher? ).

If there are some tool set that he doesn’t need to worry about being broken, he could rent his work space by hourly rate.

I don’t advertise this, but I will rent out my shop at 600 an hour.

One guy contacted me about this but then backed out because he said he could rent a drill press for 100. I told him have a nice day.

I’m not renting my shop at 100. That’s not even enough to account for people breaking stuff.

So really back to the topic at hand, where can I find some resources for getting assessed by a professional?

I called hospitals and they all tell me to schedule an appointment with those 5 minute shrinks. But I read elsewhere that they will not diagnose autism because they really don’t know much about it.

So has anyone found a confirmed resource in Taiwan where I can get assessed? Or am I out of luck?

IMO, you are asking on a wrong forum.

You might have a better luck on the following communities, or like that.

I did some quick googling…

I found this clinic:

http://www.yuning.tw/news/

Unfortunately the soonest I can see them is on 12/23 at 11am. I will take what I can get…

Yes.

Then don’t go in looking for or expecting that specific diagnosis.

I was sick as I’ve ever been this past June. I had 5 covid symptoms. Wasn’t covid. I had lots of Lyme’s disease symptoms. Wasn’t Lyme. My immune system just…crashed. They still don’t know what it was.

Just go in with your symptoms. It could be something other than what you or we armchair guessers think.

Did you go ahead and make the appointment for 12/23?

Yes, because I don’t want to waste my time making appointments with doctors at the hospital if they don’t even know about autism. One time I went and had to pay 300nt just to talk to the doctor for 5 minutes, who basically dismissed any notion of autism. I need to be sure the doctors I see knows how to treat it. Otherwise I’m wasting medical resources.

I’m happy to hear that.

Not “it” but how to treat the symptoms you are experiencing.

Oh definitely. I’ve seen it too. But I think there’s some basic skills he could learn to build an IG page to get by for now. Especially since he doesn’t have enough to pay others to do it.

Too bad Miltownkid isn’t still around. That guy would build a website in like ten minutes.

You know I used to get some business, not a lot but I had just enough to meet most of my needs. I didn’t have to work all that hard with IG and all that too.

I wonder what changed? I had some work from regular customers but all of a sudden they all went broke. Is there less money around now, or did I mess up in a major way and now there’s bad reviews about me out there?

Stop having these negative thoughts about yourself. You’ll put yourself in a spiral and it’ll become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I remember in college I had a huge crush on a girl I thought was out of my league. I had a bit of social anxiety and thought there’s no way she could be into me… that she’d just be into the BBD (bigger, better deal), so I started trying to act more “macho” and cool in her presence. When I saw her at a party, I even hit on her friend in order to make her jealous. Well, later I found out she liked me back until I started acting weird and desperate in order to impress her. I had blown my chance by getting myself into some weird spiral.

The point of this long-winded anecdote is just trust yourself and don’t envision scenarios like this, because they’ll start influencing how you view yourself and act. Don’t dwell on the negative or worry about the unknown, but believe in what you know you’re capable of and people will see that and recognize it. Even if you are different and act different, as long as you’re cool with people and treat them with respect and are professional, they’ll regard you in a positive light.

I’m not sure where your regular customers went. I doubt they all went broke, but it’s quite possible they went to a competitor. If you have a business - any business - it’s important to be able to adapt.

The reason why Andrew suggested the use of IG is because social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and I’m not sure how popular TikTok, SnapChat and LinkedIn are in Taiwan) is where everyone’s attention is. Every person in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s spend hours of their day on those phone apps. So if you want to prevent your customers from jumping ship to someone who they think is more competent/friendlier/offers better service and you want to drum up new business, that’s definitely one of the most productive avenues to explore. The goal isn’t to become an Instagram star or YouTuber. It’s to get your name out there (in your niche), to show off your craftsmanship, to be nice and positive to people and develop relationships with others. AKA offer value.

I bought a ukulele a couple of years ago. How did I buy it? I went on Google Maps and looked up what the highest rated ukulele stores were, went to one that was rated 4.9 with hundreds of reviews and bought one there. If I wanted someone to repair it, I would probably hit up the store’s email and see if they could do it, or recommend someone who could. Because their staff was super friendly with me and patient with my bad Mandarin, and gave me a bunch of free stuff with my purchase. They also do courses and classes and have a ukulele community, which makes me feel more comfortable with them. This is a pretty good example how things work now.

Your Google listing has zero reviews. That alone would automatically eliminate you from my consideration if I needed your services.

Girls always say stuff like that after the fact. It’s just a dig. She was never into you.

Your experience with girls is not the universal experience everyone has.

Maybe just making/selling top grade guitar is not enough as a viable business. I don’t know about guitars, but I went through the violin buying process, same company was providing violins from beginner to advanced (by advanced we are talking way more than 60000). Each time (3 times) we were trading back the previous violin to get a better one. And the chain was oiled by giving kickbacks to violin teachers, so pretty much it was a close market once I got the beginner violin.

What I mean is try to know your target customer and how they come up with the decision to spend 60000 or more on a guitar. It’s a sum and it won’t probably be the first guitar they are buying. Maybe at that stage, they are already got into the habit of dealing with another provider.

60,000 actually buys you a student quality violin… the sky is the limit with violins.

Yeah 60000 was “level 2” violin if I remember.

I never played around, sport. Just went in for the kill and drank my beer. Don’t think. Drink.
