it is work you can do, or you can do and like?
Itâs work anyone can do but pays peanuts and is very hard work.
Itâs hard to find a job you like that pays well, or turn a job you like into one that pays well, or turn a job that pays well into one that you like. It takes most people many years to achieve this. I donât know how old you are but you just have to keep plugging away like the rest of us.
Iâm going by what he said.
Well retail is none of them.
Itâs a job that I absolutely hate
Itâs a job that pays peanuts
And finally itâs a job that has zero accomplishment, professional, or personal development.
Itâs just a job that allows you to live paycheck to paycheck, nothing more. And if you get laid off, you are back to not being able to afford rent because the job does not allow savings at all.
factory jobs donât pay better? it may not be a good timing now, though.
Nope, pays exactly the same. Very few jobs I have ever seen pays above 10% of minimum wage. Cost down is the strategy of all bosses in Taiwan.
Except factory jobs may offer little professional development, but as to how much I canât say.
Laobans are as abusive as ever and youâll leave work thinking youâre the most incompetent human beings in the world.
To top that off, very few factories in Taiwan has AC. Furthermore, they all want full time workers. They do not want someone who only wants to work part time.
That sounds like 90% of the jobs out there.
All I know is that you said you can barely make rent. Thatâs your first and primary concern right now. Not career fulfillment and advancement. You make rent first and go to the next problem. This is the adult way of doing things.
fully agree. peanuts just enough to afford rent is better than no peanuts.
Even if getting paid peanuts is for the rest of your life and the amount of work to earn peanuts is so much that you wonât have time to think of anything else?
Says the guys who keeps complaining that 100,000 a month is being âshort changedâ.
What reasons are they giving when they berate you? Is there a pattern with these reasons?
You first make rent. Then you look for other jobs when you have the security of a place to sleep.
Autism or not, in situations like this, itâs the same for everyone. Recruiters donât always tell you exactly why youâre not being hired and bosses donât always tell you why youâre being let go.
You have to try to let it go and keep looking forward. And I say try because it can be hard even for people not on the spectrum.
Itâs ok to feel down, complain and wallow, just realise that itâs not doing you any good - youâre using/wasting both time and resources (energy, morale, etc) that you could be using to better your current situation, one problem at a time.
To summarize what he needs;
- He canât barely pay his NHI and rent = he needs financial help.
- A registered address so that he can apply for low subsidy - Tando already gave the solution.
I had serious depression for the longest time. I am not autistic but I do have some quirks that make it hard to function in most jobs (procastinator, forgetful and rebellious among others).
Iâm not sure if its everyone with depression but at least in my case the answer was hope. It wasnât a difficult life it was that I couldnât see an end to the difficult life that made it unbearable. Others see dysfunctional people and usually just want to you to accept your mediocrity. That was impossible for me. Rather imho you should start making changes. Small ones. Whatever it is. It shouldnât be something you want the most rather it should be the easiest thing. Just small steps.
As for the longer term. I have a very unconventional recommendation. Go to university. I know it sounds pointless and possibly even counter-intuitive but university is more than a useless degree. Its life on easy mode. For people like us that donât fit easily with the masses. It allows us to make social connections relatively easily and slowly teaches us how to act (even fake it if necessary) around other people. It gives us the ability to choose how isolated or social we want to be in our jobs while making a lot of money.
I been there, to university. I attended UT Austin.
It was good because while it sucked I could see light at the end of the tunnel. But the US Government decided that they could do without me.
I do not know how I can get accepted to decent universities in Taiwan. I would have to take those exams that I would not do well in, and I would never be competitive.
Not to mention how would I afford tuition?
âI do not know how I can get accepted to decent universities in Taiwan. I would have to take those exams that I would not do well in, and I would never be competitive.â
I sorry to say that life isnât easy for most people, the difference is that they make the most of what they have, which make not have been much to start with but they choose to build on it and make what they could from it.
Its gonna be hard but tuition fees are really low here and you can get government assistance as well. The odd job here and there should be enough to get by if you get out of Taipei.
I thought there are no government student financial aid for university students here, only bank loans.
Besides being competitive for admission to decent universities is a problem. Otherwise the private schools with no admissions standard is little more than degree mills (and they are expensive too).
This guyâs got it right. ![]()
