Hi, does anyone know how to dispose of energy saving light bulbs? I don’t want to throw them in the garbage because of the hazardous gases inside the bulbs. Do they get recycled here and where do I take them? Thanks.
Electronic stores like 3C should have a bin to put them in.
I give mine to the local recycling Amah that lives near us and comes around on garbage days. If you live in an apartment complex, perhaps you can ask the doorman. They usually have a container for them.
What kind of bulb? Halogen lights are hard to dispose of, but if its just a standard lightbulb you can throw it away. They are not harmful.
There’s only one way to dispose of used light bulbs:

I wanna see you do that the next time I come visit…
In my neighborhood, when the garbage truck comes, there’s a recycling truck that accompanies it. They take fluorescents and energy saving bulbs.
Ditto with Carrefour and other supermarkets. You have to go to the management desk, they also have a bin for batteries.
Which is why I give it to the recycling Amah. I think she gets some dosh out of it as she goes around the neighbourhood on garbage days and collects recyclables that people leave out for her.
FWIW halogen bulbs are easy to dispose of, they can be safely discarded or recycled since they are nothing but glass, tungsten and a puff of inert gas. Fluorescent bulbs of any size contain a small amount of mercury and need to be disposed of carefully and responsibly.
Thanks for the replies. I was talking about energy saving light bulbs. They did collect them for recycling in our apartment complex.
In the book I’m reading at the moment it explains how to remove a broken lightbulb without hurting yourself. You use a raw potato.
You can also drop them off at any lighting store. We are required to accept them, whether you are a customer or not.
Just toss them out the window of a tenth floor apartment.
But I live on the 16th floor.
Get thee to thy local Household Registration Office. They have an ID Card waiting for you!
Make friends with your tenth floor neighbours.
