How to teach 13 years old when to use do/does and when is/are in questions

They have studied it before and this lart in the book superminds 4 is a review of the grammar but they still dont know when to use which in questions.

English isnt their first language and telling them we use do for action verbs they dont get it cause everytime they ask me what action verbs are and i explain each time but still the same problem. What should i do with them?

It’s not an intuitive point of grammar for new learners, and they won’t pick it up and produce grammatically accurate questions on the fly by simply studying or reviewing it. Comprehensible input would be the best approach. In whatever activities you do, ask them many intelligible do/does or is/are questions that they can process and answer, even if it’s just a Yes, No or other short answer (actually that’s best for this purpose as it maximizes the number of questions you ask and they process, which is the point at this stage).

A real life scenario, like talking about the foods each likes or doesn’t like and/or what their friends like/prefer. Demonstrate how that would go, practice some, then put them in a mom dad and 2 kids group (?) and they have to have a discussion where each of the four asks a question and answers a question.

Play 20 questions. They have to ask the question correctly or they lose their turn

You can teach a lot with 20 questions
