How would you save Taiwan's economy?

Well, back home is either old cobblestome one way streets or 4WD terrain and hilly…rains 80% of the time -we have two seasons: rain and more rain.

Love Taiwan. Flat, nice, well-marked streets.

you should come to see how flat my street is, although it was just repaved completely (as in putting completely new tarmac, not putting new tarmac on top of old one. I know some hills that are smaller than the bumps they made on it…

Anyways, Porto has many streets without tarmac, but with old style rocks (the cube type ones), that kill any suspension… and those buses run and run…

“How would you save Taiwan’s economy?”

You get an orange-haired outsider to start a trade war with China, in order to freak out Taiwanese investors in commie-land.

A total of 30 Taiwanese companies were planning to return to their home country and invest more than a combined total of NT$120 billion (US$3.89 billion), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) announced Friday.

The plans by the 30 companies announced so far this year might lead to the creation of an estimated 10,500 jobs, according to government estimates.

Another 50 Taiwanese corporations were considering following suit, which would both foster employment on the island but also improve the quality of products turned out by local industry, reports said.

Sounds good but I fear more of the production may well move to other SE Asian countries , as there is still the apprehension of PRC making life difficult for Taiwan in the future .

yep, and will help that Southbound Policy.
Vietnam will benefit as large Taiwan manufacturing base there already for past decade or longer.

We have been trying to make more drugs and getting more biomedical companies to come do research here. It’s been a big part of the DDPs plan to improve the economy.

No , I think PRC will just make things difficult financially and politically :joy:they can send them over here but we will cope … oh sorry , you mean the SE Asian countries ? :smirk:

Well it worked for Thailand

Join the CPTPP. Japan has supported us already.

Have Korea sue Taiwan for its illegal auto tariffs under the WTO so Taiwanese people can drive more cars.

Increase subsidies for baby-making.

This is important. At least it’s not as bad as Korea and Japan.

Sell more fruit and fish. Han Guo-yu knows how to do it:
Follow the Korean fish!

Han has in just 5 months revolutionized Taiwan’s economy by traveling to many countries promoting fish, fruit, and tourism.

Mobbed by China United Front groups everywhere, Han has successfully traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, on his quest to promote Taiwan’s fruit, fish, and the tourist Mecca of Taiwan, Kaohsiung City.

Han’s successful forays into south-east Asian countries with large ethnic Chinese populations culminated in a trip to China itself, where he was embraced by Communist Party officials with open arms.

Han’s success did not go unnoticed, and he was invited to the United States for “academic exchanges,” in such prestigious institutions as Harvard University, and Stanford University, where he spoke to small groups of Chinese Americans about how successful he is, compared to previous Presidents of Taiwan.

There have been successes actually in biopharmaceutical and medical but not enough foreign investment. Still need a bigger market/industry in services to improve things.

In general, Taiwan doesn’t need more polluting industry. Taiwan already has a big economy and a lot of money stashed away. How to activate that money in a beneficial way is just as important.

Terry Guo’s moving a lot of production to India. China’s about to feel some pain, I feel.

Globally, we need to start making some tough decisions. The elderly need to be culled Eskimo style. I think we can start at 75 and gradually reduce it until the global population is balanced with fewer consumers and more producers. Triage, basically.

I read though this thread it’s a bit sad to see very little change since 2008 here. Most of the urban centers still look like crap.

At the same time people aren’t that badly off either. It’s just pretty boring overall. For people down South, they mostly probably just hope for a factory job or whatever.

Central Taiwan got more factories since 2008 and far more ‘developed’, but the pollution index rocketed . I passed through south and central Taiwan last week air pollution was bad for the whole week everywhere we went. We didn’t see the sun or blue sky once I think . Fail.

I agree.
That is why the new set of politicians, imho, MUST think extremely outside of the box.
No already tried and failed policies.
Love him or hate him or not care, :tangerine: man is way outside the box and showing results

Make prostitution, weed, euthanasia and polygamy legal. That’s for starters. (No, I don’t support that , but you asked for a solution to the economy). Plus some mega casinos.
