Hsinchu? Taoyuan?

Here’s my situation…

I’m an experienced teacher, but new to Taiwan, and I’ve got two offers on the table.

a) a full-time position / 12-8 M-F, 24 hrs in class, elementary school kids - $68,000 / month
— nice people, nice school, in Taoyuan

b) a part-time position / btw 2-6 M-F, 15.5 hrs in class, elementary school kids - $700 /hr
— nice people, nice environment, in Zhubei, Hsinchu

Take the hours? Or go part-time and supplement with another PT class or private lessons?

I’m cool with being in a smaller city, so that’s not a big issue.

I don’t really care for obligatory office hours in option A.

I would be a little concerned about supplementing my hours with option B.

Option C, of course, is to take neither. (I’ve only been in Taiwan for two weeks and could wait for something better.)

To be clear, money is important but not my only concern. I’m also here for a cultural experience and Hsinchu seems more interesting than Taoyuan - but I don’t know either city that well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

An important clarification: will you be in Hsinchu City or Hsinchu County? If it’s the former, I agree that the living conditions would be better than in Taoyuan (I’m sorry if this offends any Taoyuan fans posting here on forumosa).

About the hours vs set salary, I cannot say as I’ve been on salary since I’ve arrived.

Thanks, Guy. I amended my message to include that it’s in Zhubei, Hsinchu.
