I Am So Tired of Zhonghua Dian Xin's Service

It seems like for weeks now this company cannot even provide to me a reliable internet connection. Taipei claims to be the most internet connected city in the world.

Let’s just say it as it is: It is f***ed up and is not reliable or relevant. As a foreigner who lives here and tries to provide recommendations to visitors, I cannot recommend anything in regards to connections to the internet.

My best advice for them is “DO NOT EVEN RELY ON INTERNET ACCESS WHEN IN TAIWAN”.

I am so sick of it. I live here and pay for it, but so much of the time I have nothing.

Anyone that claims that Taipei is internet connected city, is sucking
wind.

I say this with a multitude of experience.

Tell us how you really feel about it.

Try another provider. SeedNet has proven very reliable for me over the past 4 years. Occasional glitch, but otherwise smooth sailing.

I dont have any problems with Hinet, except for the above average speeds I get.

See the technology threads.

wow, 99% of Hinet internet users report no problems, sheeeeeit, I am on it now, and can usually download a 175mb TV show in three minutes. The internet here has been fabulous IMHO.

I just transferred my Taiwan mobile number to Zhonghua Dian Xin. (I want an iPhone). They wanted a $2,900 deposit from me because I was a foreigner, but I told them that was a stupid rule that was discriminatory and nonsensical. After an hour of talking with the manager there, and talking on the phone to her manager, and then that manager’s manager, I got them to agree with me. So, no deposit! :discodance: Damn, but these small victories take up a lot of time. :unamused:

I went down to the ZhongHua office today and upgraded from my crappy bottom-end 2M/256k dynamic IP package to a 10M/2M “guaranteed” line with three static IPs, which seems to be the top end of the regular packages. It’s only NT$1000/mo more than before!

We’ll see how it is once the engineer gets here.

Well, not bad:

Pretty spectacularly crappy international pings though. I might see if I can find a way to improve on that.

Edit: Also, they gave me six (SIX!) static IP addresses. What the heck am I supposed to do with them all?
