I have to do a demo at Uncle Sams school soon. I am certain before I left blighty I read something on here about them being horrible, and I swear to god it was the same director.
Anyway I will go along and see what their patter is, does anyone have any advice for me?
I have only been in Taiwan for like 3-4 months to learn Chinese so I wont say im good at Chinese yet but good enough to survive and speak daily life.
I accidentally met this local girl and she WAS really into me.
in one week, she racked up her phone bill up to 3000NT, she asked me to move in with her and go to Taoyuan with her as she’s gonna do her Master degree there on September.
I was a bit hesitating as I have a year apartment contract and if I move out, I lost my 25000NT but I said I might as I started to love her even more.
I stayed at her places in the first few days… I went out with her and her friend. I thought being friendly with her friend is a good move but once her friend went home, she told me she didnt like the fact that im being good to her, she was jealous. talked for a while and she back to normal
just about one week, she just sent me SMS saying dont come, after all, I don’t love you that much.
I was like WTF, I called her for likes 3 hours just to find out that her friends were flaming her that ABC loves to play and never serious plus I gonna go back eventually. she said im arrogant for saying Taiwan salary is low for entry level (which she AGREED TOO that time) and we have maid back home. she said my jokes overdid it but she never told me anything before. I was like… if you didnt like it, say it in the first place and so I wont speak anything that may hurt her. I could calm her and we went back together.
one day she called maid to clean her apartment and she told me I was so lucky to get her as lots of guys have been chasing her. I might smile while I sleep, she said. I noticed that too as many guys called her at night time. she said out of many people, one of them is a doctor and other have a freaking Lamborghini. she said it’s because they cant make her laugh as I do to her.
she the week after, she did the same too, this time, even worse. my friends are curious about how she looks so I showed her picture. they said she is cute and I told her that. she texted me saying something like “so what? I don’t need anyone telling me what do I look like, I know it myself and I don’t feel anything special” . she texted to me, “I keep thinking, after all I don’t love you that much plus my Chinese sucks that she could not discuss about politics and business. I’m living a TOO GOOD life as I don’t go to work here (I would like to work but my Chinese sucks and my passport is not from english-speaking country so english teacher is out of my option). You dont read book (how to get rich in 50 days, donald trump, etc lol) everyday. I can take care of myself and I don’t need a man. Once I moved to Taoyuan, I wont be able to see you anymore, anyway”.
she wouldnt picked up my phone after that last SMS for like 2 days even though I called her hundreds time and sent her millions of SMSes.
I got upset and went clubbing with friends. she suddenly called me at 3AM while I was clubbing. I got pumped up and yelled at her, yes it was my biggest fault.
well I just asked her WHY with not so friendly tone… not actually I yelled at her. she told me she packed my stuff and gonna put it in the receptionist for me to take and hung up the call straight away.
the day after, she texted me saying my stuff is ready to pick but she still wouldnt answer my call nor my SMS. so I went there to take my stuff but I stayed there hoping I could see her and talk in person. I texted her saying sending millions of SMSes is not cheap, just talk for like 5 minutes and if she doesnt like it, she can hang up. God bless she called me, she said it’s all over, she doesnt wanna see me anymore. I called her “baobei” and she said not to call her with that as I don’t deserve to call her with that name anymore. she got annoyed. she said if I waited at the receptionist and she saw me there, she would move out and would just completely ignore me. she said, maybe I could see you again in the future, but not this few weeks. I kept saying sorry I was drunk and it was really my fault but she wouldnt forgive me.
so it only lasted for 2 weeks. Oh yes, we spoke in Chinese as she cant speak english.
I don’t regret it as it was a wonderful experience! I don’t think we will get back together again though…
my question is just, are Taiwanese girls so easy to change my mind?
in the morning she said she loves me and half day later, she said she doesnt love me anymore.
she said I was funny but I wasn’t later on.
she laughed and kept cuddling me but her attitude changed on the phone.
I just dont want to make the same mistake when I find a new one.
Am I missing something or it’s just her?
any other tips when you are in relationship with local girls?
Sorry about my messy english. lol
Try not to generalize an entire gender of a population. Not all women from Taiwan reacts the same given the identical situation. While you may have experience a particular Taiwanese woman who has become indecisive does not mean the women you will meet in the future will be the same. While it is difficult for me to judge your relationship merely based on a few paragraph you wrote, we both can agree that I think this relationship has become "I love her more than she loves me.’’ Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so frustrated and spent the time talking about it here.
You should try to take it easy, it is not uncommon for many Taiwanese women today to ponder whether a guy is worthwhile. With Taiwan’s economy today and many folks out of the job. Many women are afraid to commit to someone who is here on a temp status, especiallys someone who is unfamiliar with the culture altogether. After all, you have only been in Taiwan for 4 months maximum. Instead, you two should try to sit down and talk about what is bothering both of you. The issues of what may happen, what she fears the most, what you feel the most in terms of making the relationship work. If she is truly serious about what she has said in the past, then she will decide whether to take her friend’s advice or go with the flow with you.
Drama, drama, drama, drama…
Some people love it. They need to keep the relationship interesting. They love asking things in a Woody Allen type destructive manner. “Why are we together, anyways? All my friends tell me that I am too hot for you…” etc. This has two effects. First, it antagonizes and creates anxiety in the relationship. And second, it satisfies some sort of inner need to fill up space. It’s not just women who do this (obviously), and I actually had a few gay friends who were very much into this constant same sort of drama. If you thrive on this drama as well, then perhaps it’s okay. Some people love to have the ups and downs, the crazy whirlwind fights followed by depressed crawls followed by manic reunion. Most drama people hate it, but talk about it and obsess about it and eventually confront each other about it, but only in front of others and using intermediaries that inevitably are not as drama hogs as they are.
Watch any soap opera, read any tabloid, or just listen to conversations of anxious people and you will see that these people are pretty common. They thrive on this anxiety. Why? Well, it keeps their mind active and engaged. Also, it involves themselves…and drama people LOVE themselves. They are incredibly vain, self-glorious, and often ingratiating to wheedle out compliments from you. They love power games, and measuring their control over you and their ability to suck you into the drama that powers their lives. Do you really want a friend who is like a bad soap opera? A person who sends you text messages to tell you they are thinking about breaking up with you? And the drama mentality is promoted by mainstream media and tv shows. Needless to say, reality shows LOVE drama people. And people model themselves after these tv shows, sadly not taking in the idea that the behavior shown is only consumable in hour long doses. Then again, some people can watch drama shows night after night, hour after hour, consumed and enraptured with the endless backstabbing, little glances, constant threats and exchanges.
Honestly, it sounds from your posts that you LOVED the drama just as much as she did. You know what you have to do. If you don’t enjoy a tv show…just don’t watch it, or change the channel. Or, come back later. Maybe the programmer will have realized the show wasn’t getting the ratings and now it’s something you like more.

reading between the lines, I surmise that Stray Dog now has his own TV show!
very sensible post aahz!!
I have issues with this
ummmm and Men don’t do it??? Meaning Straight Men? I am sure you didn’t mean to put it that way. ![]()
Straight men Don’t do that, OK? And if they do, then they’re obviously gay. Come on already.
![]()
heh, sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that it was only women and gay men. Obviously many guys do it too. (Hence my Woody Allen example)
Still, if one had to archetype who does this sort of behavior most, it would very likely be stereotyped as gay men and/or needy women. Perhaps that’s why the term drama queen came about. (really don’t know…)
A bit of drama is always good for the nerves. Counterpoint to the dark horse comedy of life. Yet, it must be real, and not authored by some poseur, or some retentive malcommunicator.

It is stereotyping and not archetyping (sorry - I don’t think that’s really a word). I’m not saying that the stereotypes have no truth to them though. But I must admit that the most drama I’ve ever seen has been after straight men have had a few drinks, started whining pitifully, and have then progressed to breaking each others’ noses.
Um…divea, why does Men (with the capital) mean straight men. Are you emulating aahz whose use of “guys” excludes gay guys? ![]()
If I wasn’t so damn cool and in control of my emotions like any Man, I’d be outraged, and would then take of my earrings and throw down my feather boa, so as to be better able to beat you both with my purse.
True! Especially the “dronk verdriet” part…

I dumped her for real this time, it’s been few weeks we dont contact each other now.
and I got few new contacts too which make me can get over her
Good for you. Your ex is far from how average TW women are like. Just don’t blame Taiwanese for that.
But next time beware of those who’re too into you at the beginning, because one of the norms here for girls is passivity (more or less).
Girls that behave too eager or desperate for a relationship are regarded uncool (sometimes even monstrous) by local people, so even if we think a guy is really hot, most of us tend to keep a “safe” and “polite” distance. Even if we decide to pick him up or get to know him first, there’s still usually some holding back in the icebreaker. That’s kinda social norm many girls are not even aware of, actually. It’s called Jinchi (矜持) in Chinese, and the implication of this word has something to do with dignity and respect. It’s kinda positive word in this culture. Jinchi is considered a necessary quality in women here, regardless what age they’re of.
So the point is that when a Taiwanese woman is really that into you at the beginning, chances are either she doesn’t care or isn’t aware of this norm. In both case she could be eccentric enough to treat you like your ex.
