I have a few things I want to get rid of quick, don’t want to deal with putting up an ad or anything. Living in a hostel and don’t want to drag this crap around with me
Tried going to some pawn shops one was closed the other was nowhere to be seen. Taking a closer look I’m not sure they even buy and sell stuff looks like they just do loans for vehicles. Any place I can go?
What kind of things
No. Hell no. NO.
Pawn shops are run by mafia and unless you have a Rolex or a Beemer, that is NOT the place you go for knicknacks.
If you want to sell the stuff, go to a second hand shop. There should be two or three streets lined up with them in Kaohsiung, just like in Taipei.
If you have patience, I will search a couple of addresses for you. In the meantime, STAY AWAY FROM THE PAWNSHOP!!!

Just some electrical goods like an air purifier and fan
Didnt know about 2nd hand stores. Would a 3C one buy those things or is it just like phones and computers
Second hand stores don’t buy from you, they put it up for sale and when sold you get the money.
Pawn shops in Taiwan is NOTHING like they are in the states… it’s not a place where you take your household items to use as collateral for small high interest loans.
I seen outside every pawn shops in Taiwan and all I have ever seen are jewelries, and big ticket items. I don’t think they really care to take in your heater, fan, lamp, power tools, etc. and give you money for it.
Take a picture of the items and put it on one of those facebook buy/sell groups. Offer a low enough price and it will be gone within hours.
You mean the big yellow store? No.
Where are you located again?
Well I took a taxi to the closest one I can find that Google said was open and it wasn’t. Feeling a bit fed up I just left the stuff outside as a donation. More effort than it’s worth I feel.
But if anyone in Taichung wants a free air purifier I can tell you where I left it.
You cannot just leave stuff anywhere!!! It is against the law, you could be fined/ arrested for that. It was very irresponsible to do that. Yes, you took a taxi and there are cameras everywhere.
You do not even know if that was a second hand store. If you did not want the stuff, give it to a church or one of those people who recycle stuff. They would be the ones happy to get it. Second hand stores do not accept donations. They already have too much stuff.
I know you are going through some stuffof but please do not act so rashly.
EDIT
Go back and if the stuff is still there, pick it up. If someone scolds you/cops are called, apologize and tell them you got the wrong address.
Sell it in Facebook. There are many buy and sell groups. SE Asians here love to get 2nd hand stuff for cheap. Be prepare to bargain hard though. They do that.
Too late. Now some big brother will find a bunch of garbage outside their office and get really pissed.
And Taichung, no less.
‘Recycle’ amah will be happy when she gets there first!
You get a 6000nt fine for illegal dumping if you just leave garbage on the side of the street. People will have cameras set up as this happens quite often. Go to some less kept street corners and you will know what I’m talking about. People just leave bags of trash on the side of the street.
Exactly.
There are signs in all buildings regarding when/where you can throw away appliances for recycling. They state clearly the dates and places for pickup, and warn that there is a FINE for not complying.
This is not the US where you put stuff on the curb and it magically disappears. There are strict regulations regarding dumping stuff.
What pains me is that as a donation, those items could have done a lot of good.
If Taiwanese people lived like Americans, drove BIG SUV’s and dumped large items on the side of the road, the environment of Taiwan would be much worse than it already is. Traffic would be hellish too. We don’t have dumpsters for the same reason too, because it stank up the environment which is why this musical garbage truck exists.
The population density is far too high for Taiwanese to live the American dream. It simply isn’t sustainable.
Back home if you saw really bad urban or suburban environments, imagine if you squeeze it by 100 times and see what happens.
Moreover, U.S. has no laws regarding recycling of home appliances. Taiwan does.
One of the positives of Taiwan, people live more sustainably…
Because Americans just like throwing stuff away…
