If one was to leave sunny Taiwan & when old came back to claim their pensions.
Would a passport suffice for ID only as I’m sure APRC would have expired by then.

Most APRCs won’t expire, that what the P means, but even if it were cancelled due to a prolonged absence from the country, you probably just need to prove your identity. I think the only way to get an answer is from the relevant gov’t office.
When i phoned up the labor office today, i had to tell them the names of places i had previously worked to confirm my identity. They were really strict asking where i worked when i was first added to the pension scheme, my job after that etc. Sounds easy? Well all the bloody cram schools have the name on the sign and their official one which they are actually registered as.
I guess one solution would be to keep the contracts for everything. I’m not sure that would lead to completely smooth sailing, but it might help.

Luckily, i had old tax forms which i took out after telling them i would ring back. This is the first time i have met people being really careful in this way in Taiwan.
Normally they ask, are you BigDave?

How about collecting Taiwan pension and not living in Taiwan? Any idea?
You could just collect it as a single lump sum. It’s not any sort of livable wage anyway.
Taipei Guy: The pension office can send u monthly or yearly payments to an overseas account for a small fee.
Once a year you have to send proof of life.
I’ve confirmed this with the office. Exactly what is the procedure? I don’t know.

U can claim your pension without having an APRC or HHR.
U just need to prove who u are. A passport is fine.
The dude did recommend keeping copies of your APRC.
Its also possible to do it online too.
