ID number after naturalization

I guess it’s like what social security number used to be like.

Back in the day social security digits had meaning, like where was the number assigned, etc.

But they ditched that in 2011 to open up additional digits like 665 or whatever. Now SSN’s are randomly assigned.

I was wondering why the third digit was 1 (X11) instead of 6 (X16) as it should be based on the table. The document is from 2019 but it says the table was already in use by then to assign different numbers to people of different origins who naturalized and got household registration (設籍後再依現行規定改換國民身分證號(格式如表3)).

Have you tried applying online for an online banking account? I know that some banks only allow Taiwanese born in Taiwan to open an online banking account with them. Even those who were born to Taiwanese parents outside Taiwan are rejected by the system and it’s apparently based on the third digit (those born outside Taiwan are assigned 7 instead of 0-5).

Nope, I haven’t applied for an online banking account…never felt the need for it.

it wad introduced in 2003, so kind of the opposite move of SSN in US.

ah, so the person must have naturalized prior to 2003.
