If APRC holders would like to see the reciprocity rules scrapped, in regards to land ownership, who to contact, what approaches should we take?
The way i see it, APRC is not so different from ARC, one could even say APRC= non expiry ARC, other than this doesnt offer much advantage as to our day to day lives. Would’ve been lot better if reciprocity rules didnt apply.
Was wondering if there were any attempts done in the past trying to get rid of reciprocity rules for APRC holders
I agree with this in principle but I think fighting for naturalisation without renunciation would solve this and many other problems.
And it’s easier to keep the government focused on one solution rather than move the goal posts.
That, I believe, is by design. The solution is to naturalise - which would also solve the reciprocity problem of buying land as well as every other problem with ARCs
It’s not a bad theory but I can already foresee the response from the MOI “Taiwan is a small country with limited land yet is gracious enough in the spirit of fairness to allow foreigners to buy land provided they come from countries where Taiwanese are also allowed to buy land. Taiwan is also gracious enough to allow foreigners to naturalise where reciprocity rules do not apply”
By asking the government to change the renunciation requirement you are asking them to move the goal posts. So the government is focused on one solution. Renounce and rejoice in your new found freedom.
Naturalization doesn’t help me as I cannot own the land I live on right now. Only indigenous people can own it. Woe is me. Life isn’t fair.
Renunciation is good for the soul. Being stateless as it was before wasn’t so terrible. At least now you are not stateless and get one year to renounce. Not like in the good old days where you renounced first then naturalized.
Thankfully there is no reciprocity when it comes to citizenship anywhere in the world although some dream of it.
PS You don’t even need an ARC to buy property in Taiwan can be done on a tourist visa. Just like a Taiwan drivers license.
I actually found one. Just one. It involves my passport too.
Paraguay only allows dual citizenship with countries that have signed bilateral treaties on the issue. Their constitution makes clear that dual citizenship is only afforded on the principle of reciprocity and a signed treaty.
yeah but the problem with that is I have to give up my own nationality, who knows how long it will take MOI to accept dual nationality maybe a decade.
might be easier to improve ARC/APRC laws and lift some restrictions, we wouldnt be asking for dual nationality in the first place if immigration laws werent backwards
If all of us are hammering at the government with different issues that could be solved by one solution, we’re not working efficiently. We don’t have the resources to attack ALL of the issues, but we can go after the one that would solve 90% of our problems.

Dual citizenship is not granted by the Mongolian government.
Article 4. Non-recognition of dual citizenship
A citizen of Mongolia shall not be recognized as a citizen of a foreign country at the same time.
If a foreign citizen wants to become a citizen of Mongolia, he / she must renounce the citizenship of that country. If the law of a foreign country provides for the loss
of citizenship by becoming a citizen of another country, it is not required to renounce the citizenship of that country, and a certificate from the relevant authority must be obtained.
According to this, Mongolia generally does not allow dual citizenship to begin with. Getting Taiwanese may have your Mongolian stripped anyways.
