If you could easily reacquire your citizenship, would you become a Taiwanese?

No I didnt. I don’t give a rats arse about living in another country.
China is not Taiwan. Japanese cannot renounce for the ROC as Japan does not recognize the ROC. My Japanese relatives had to live in Australia for 15 years before they were allowed to naturalize after WW2.

So in your case (like many others) you do have to pay tax which others normally don’t have to.

Also submitting a US tax return is no easy task. Not the type of thing I would be happy to do if I didn’t live there.

Well luckily us foreigners can open US trading accounts and pay no US taxes on profits to the USA or to Taiwan. Pesky that foreign nationals who have never lived in Taiwan cannot pay taxes here lol

Worked for me. lol

we’re all in the same boat, and all of my friends are coming with me. We all go toward old age. How many years left we don’t know. We just have to accept it. Even if my mother could move here she wouldn’t. She’s only done 94 orbits around the sun and lives alone in a ground floor apartment where she has social services buy her food and do some of her apartment cleaning in Oz.

Shame old folk don’t qualify for the NDIS. She’d be having some fun on the taxpayers dime

She’s been living on tax payers dime for nearly 3 decades…

Same as my dad. Lately he’s been having some sweet sexual services though (all paid for by the Australian taxpayers in addition to other benefits.)

Maybe Taiwan can make it reciprocal so Australians in Taiwan get the same sexual benefits from the government? Lol

Is the tea house not cheap enough?

Free is always better

I’m not sure where this is all going

:australia: :taiwan:

Also my tax bill is high enough, I vote no more prostitutes

My dad said “thanks for nothing asshole.”

You’re right. Anyone can apply.

Many who claim that have tried and failed.

I read the FAQ justifying that policy. It seems like you could use the same logic to justify providing the same state-sponsored services to non-disabled people who nobody wants to sleep with.

I know one person bragging about being able to apply. Then he said he would apply on XXX date. Weeks later he pretended like he never said he could… LOL

Wrong. Didnt you still get your original citizenship back? No one thinks hat is foolish. If anything, most of olus are quite envious of your advantages that we don’t get to enjoy. You should feel grateful you got to have this opportunity as most of us non taiwnaese Don get to have a fraction of the privileges you get to enjoy. And this isn’t a cry about we make a choice. You got a better option, it’s that simple. Many of us, and I hope people like you too, want to push the government not to be so hypocritical. This is the root of the issue.

Too late. They made prostitution illegal and now we have all kinds of criminal underworld sex trafficking. Nothing good has come from this

13 years after I renounced after a new law was passed nearly a decade after I renounced. I was in such a rush to get it back… not In fact I wasn’t going to resume just did it because after all… I could. I just applied when visiting my son in Australia when he was starting university. The real reason I got it back was I was doing 7 - 10 trips a year to the Philippines and a single trip visa is NT$2600 now was 1600 before.

An Aussie passport of convenience saves me lots of money of visa fees.
I will never live in Australia again.

Lots of threads calling people who naturalized all sorts of nasty things. This forum was one but many of them allowing people to question why one would naturalize at all when all they were asking is what the rules are.

When I renounced there was no possibility of resumption of citizenship as Australia did not allow Australians dual citizenship back then. I was called a troll and much worse on this forum for stating that.

So I renounced knowing I would only have the one citizenship with no possibility of resumption. Unless you think I had some magic crystal ball that looked into the future.

https://www.roc-taiwan.org/ph_en/post/2332.html

Nonsense. Anyone could have renounced as I did to enjoy the benefits of citizenship. They just chose not to. They had the same opportunity and refused to partake in that opportunity. I made a choice and they made a choice. Want a different outcome, make a different choice. I had the same opportunity offered to everyone, Renounce and rejoice in your new found citizenship. Or not as the case may be lol.

What better option did I have when I naturalized that you claim?
Please tell.

Killjoy! :upside_down_face:

Guy

This is what I am asking. Anyone can renounce. I wasn’t aware you waited 13 years. I thought certain actions, like Australia, could resume it. People from such countries dont knowrhe sacrifice of renouncing, being starelss and becoming taiwa ese withot much hope of ever returning to their country of birth to have cotize shio amd thus basic rights to tend to fmaily matrers. That is the question. The double standard of needing to renounce whilst taiwanese are welcome on our original citinships’ shores is complete bullshit. Certain foreigners that don’t have this hurdle shouldn’t really complain about foreigners that do have this hurdle. Precisely because this hurdle is multi generation for many of us, and it costs us n only money but also sacrifice to family care amongst other issues. That is why I take note of people sayunrey won’t shed a tear for those that don’t try. As if they knew the first fucking thing of the lives of so many that basically legally have to abandon their family abroad in order to have basic rights here in order to take care of their family in Taiwan.

Surely you do see this issue? It’s disgusting at best. Fight harder, push further. Not dismiss foreigners that can make a choice. Sure. I make a choice not to murder someone on the daily. Doesn’t mean that’s a choice that should be required to make. This choice is fucking retarded as shit to be FORCED to make!!! So much so maybe slwe should start petitioning foreign countries to start banning taiwnaese from gaining citizenship. Wouldn’t that be a quick fix on this side…fuck sakes.
