IMAX in Taiwan?

I’ve always thought that when I take my wife back to Canada it’d be fun to take her to IMAX. And today I find out that there is already one or two here in Taiwan?

Anyone have any links or whatnot? I hear one is near WarnerBrothers theater in Taipei. But I’d still need listings for show times and whatnot.

I hear the new Batman will be playing in Imax. I’d love to see something like that. I’ve never seen a full length movie in any Imax. Just the documentaries.

You can find the locations of all the locations in Taipei, Kaoshiung and Taichung.

The Samsung IMAX in Taipei is 3D equipped and is probably the best one.

There’s one at the Miramar Shopping Centre in Neihu, the one with a ferris wheel on top. They do say Batman in IMAX from July 17th

Right, that’s the one I was talking about.
They might have changed the name, because on the official site they still refer to it as the Samsung IMAX Theatre.

If you like science, space, astronomy…there is a good one at the Taipei Astronomical Museum:

Check first to see what’s being show.

I’ve got my tickets for Batman this Friday night at the Miramar IMAX baby.

There was an article in the paper today that said that only some of the scenes in Batman were taken with the IMAX cameras. I wonder if you can tell which ones they were.

There has been one in Taichung at the science museum for 18 years or so…

I’ve been to that one. It’s like the one at the Astronomy museum in Taipei. It doubles as the planetarium.

Well, I was in the 3rd row tonight and some of the panning scenes across NYC and HK sure were shot using IMAX. Not usually a big fan of the superhero movies, (fell asleep in Ironman), but quite enjoyed the chemistry between Heath Ledger as the villain and the new guy playing Batman.

So was it worth the extra price of the IMAX tickets? Are they hard to get (lining up at 2am?)? How much more expensive is it? I’ve never been there.

Imax is insane. The screen is roughly 10 times bigger than the biggest theater you’ve ever been to.

Do people get seasick? I’m afraid she’ll be asking to leave in the middle.

The closer you sit, the more it seems to affect you. The girl I was with had a bit of trouble at first, but then was fine. Book tickets online and then pick them up at the window to make sure you don’t end up sitting so close

And actually, we went on a whim last night; bought tickets for the 10pm show at about 9:40, so no big wait, but we did end up in the 3rd row.

The tickets are like NT$60 more than the regular showing, NT$350 each as opposed to NT$290, so yeah, I’d say it’s worth the extra price. I don’t think I would have enjoyed this movie much if it wasn’t for the size and sound of it all. I’d watch paint dry if it was shot in IMAX.

 Thanks, ck – we’ll give it a shot tonight. :sunglasses:

As for “only some scenes actually shot in Imax” that’s more than usual.

The few feature length blockbusters that are shown in Imax are remastered to Imax from standard 35mm film. Actual Imax cameras are generally only used for documentaries and stuff.

So Dark Knight is unusual int hat some sequences were actually shot in Imax format.

Good luck.
I tried to get seats last night, and there were no good seats left for this weekend.
You can sometimes get tickets right before the show though, when the reservations don’t show up.

I’m going Monday Night…if anyone wants to get a foot rub and possibly a quick slap and tug in the theater just let me know.

Perhaps when you watch 3D movies, but else it should be ok. But get a seat in the middle to back, the front sucks.
