How about national pension payments – could you and did you cancel those payments also before departing? I’m still researching this topic, but haven’t found any information yet about canceling those payments, and it seems that if you have HHR, you’re supposed to pay into the system.
you didn’t cancel, you just suspended, i guess. at least, the current nhi act doesn’t allow you cancel without moving out your hhr abroad.
Well first you have not completed military service. and secondly you have never been a legal resident of the USA so how did you think you were going to get citizenship?
I know of another Australian who did so as getting a visa for his Australian passport had become more difficult. He does not live in China just does business with factories there.

There is a surprisingly thorough 233-page government report from 6 years ago that mentions this problem and the government’s plans to improve the accuracy of the system by introducing additional checks and fines. The report includes an English-language summary of the conclusions.
The way they’re going to improve this is to allow people to register the address using informal rental contracts.
Because currently only way to do this is to have property tax receipt. This is impossible for tenants to provide.
As you know this has already been done for rental contracts and you have discussed it in other rental threads.
It has to be court notarized contract. Stationary store contract do not work.

I’m not super involved witht here cases so haven’t checked harder. But with my circles and needing contracts, it is indeed the norm to have court certified contracts written…
Again. I’m not sure of TL specific case, or others. But it is true that already, despite being the law, even the bookstore useless contract “books” do NOT hold any weight jn terms of court or legal issues like citizenship. They are just hopes and dreams to appease the masses so they can work it out in police office backroom negotiations. That’s for sure the reality
If you want something ACTUALLY legally binding. Good luck. The price nearly triples, if you’re lucky, for a poor person just trying to live. It is not realistic. It makes sense for proper businesses and the like. It is, by FAR, not the norm.
This is the typical case of there being actual laws, but zero enforcement. And in this situation, zero education so that people know how to deal with such scenarios.

Yea, when I asked the landlord about registering my household registration he gave me his property tax receipt rather than go the whole “certified rental contract” thing. I am unsure why the heck most landlords hate doing this, because it actually protects the landlord. Like if you don’t pay rent they can evict you without having to go to court to sue you and stuff. Also other stuff like damages and such. It really helps the landlord more than it does the tenant.
With that book store contract if a tenant decides to be a complete asshole it would be a complete pain for the landlord to get him kicked out. The court would recognize it, but it would cost $$$ to even step into that court room with lawyers charging 50,000nt just to review your case. What is it cost, like 500nt in court fees to get it certified??
But as far as the HHR office is concerned, they don’t really care one way or another. Taiwan’s very informal when it comes to this.
Did you do it at 外交部 or was rush servicr available at your HHR office?
Well, because it costs a LOT to notarize a Rental Contract…like 9 times of what you speculated! NT$4500! I did it last year cos I rented a Social Housing Unit (社會住宅). Luckily, the Govt. subsidized all of it and I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket. It’s why most locals would not opt to legally notarize a rent contract and choose to rather just buy a simple rent contract booklet from a stationery store and use that (as most Landlords will not agree to pay the NT$4500!)
Yea that’s really stupid. I guess they’d only do it if the rent for the property is very high, like over 100k a month, which means commercial properties.
Shenfenzheng (ID) and HHR was at the district office. Took 1-2 hours.
Passport was at BOCA (bureau of consular affairs) in Taipei. Tip: bring 2 photos. You can take them there but the line for the machines was 30-60 minutes.
I waited 3 hours to get my ticket called. Once my ticket called, I finished in 5 minutes.
Were you able to successfully “move out” using the online option? I want to try this as well. But I was thinking to just change my status before I left the country.
I don’t have HHR yet, so I didn’t and can’t try the move-out process. Please do share your experience if and when you try it, and if it went smoothly or if there were any unexpected problems.
