Has anyone tried to hire an in-home nanny from your home country or from another country?
I usually see caregiver for elderly, but not for babies.
Caregivers are government regulated. One has to apply to get one and meet certain requirements. There are no live in caregivers to babies from there.
I imagine trying to organize a visa and work permit for a live in nanny is difficult.
People with open work permit and residency have much better job options. The pay expectation would probably exceed the budged for a nanny.
Other options for childcare are more viable.
usually the locals hire midwives instead of foreign workers for infants. this is different from say HK or SG
The locals normally apply for a foreign caregiver to take care of grandpa but also make them take care of the kids too.
I have met a lot of people using local nannies. Mostly they seem to be satisfied.
Go Au Pair worked out for us when nothing else did, mostly because we could see actual candidate profiles and not just names passed around in groups. The matching part felt more organized than I expected and it saved us a lot of back and forth.
How did you handle the work permit?
