Ingrown toe nails

Anyone know an English speaking podiatrist? And what I can expect from getting rid of these painful things? My mom had them when she was my age and the whole toenails removed from her big toes. She couldn’t walk well for weeks. I am hoping I don’t have to go this route! :help:

Most doctors will just give you antibiotics to eliminate the bacteria that is causing the ingrown toenails and hopefully let it grow itself out. Go early as possible otherwise it may get worse. Most doctors should be half decent in English. If you cannot wait for the nail to grow itself out, try the cosmetic places. They offer this service and it isn’t too painful to cut half the toe nail out.

I had the same problem for years : suggestions are
a) Cut a V in the middle of the nail - supposed to draw the edges out of the skin.
b) Loose shoes - sandels if you can
c) Get them removed - this thy do either temporarily OR permanently by destroying the nail bed. Temp jobs are done under local anaesthetic- which wears off as you walk home - which is a truely wonderful experience. The full job - in my case - was under general - and is the only thing that really worked!

Thanks! I guess I was just hoping that some great new technique had been developed while I wasn’t paying attention that was painless and gave me the toenails of a supermodel!

Skippy, how long did it take to recover from the full operation?

Sticks of fury, what are these cosmetic places?

There is one near the Tai Shun Park. 上海式修指甲 Across the park is a small row of stores and it is between a small toy store and small hardware store.

It’s is basically near the Shi Da night market on Long Chuan street but it is on the street parallel to it on Tai Shuen street–not Shi Da road but on the other side.

There is a product that I have found quite effective for ingrown toenails. It is Atomidine, and is available through The Heritage Store.

If you are in dire need, I have a nearly full bottle, and could share some.
