Intel Chips - Common name list

There must be a place where I can find a list of common Intel Processor names. For example: x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2 GeniuneIntel 265MHz is an Intel Celeron Chip, but what chip speed?

I found a list of generic names from the MS website at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q216/2/04.asp&NoWebContent=1 but I need a little bit more information.

This little project of mine requires finding out some 100 machines and servers.

Any helpful hints? :notworthy:

TIA,

Try Anandtech.com – click the tab for “CPU” and look for articles named “Intel processor roadmap” or similar. If they don’t have it, then you can ask on their forums.

TomsHardware.com might also have a list, dunno, I rarely look there.

Chipset to follow.

I wouldn’t limit myself to Intel if I was you. I think the hottest chip around right now is the AMD64. As for Intel’s much-hyped “next generation” Itanium processor, most people seem to think it’s a dead-end (which is why it’s earned the nickname “Itanic”).
