Interview Questions

Hi everyone, I’m new and at the moment I just have this one question and I posted this in Dave’s Taiwan forum as well.

Hope to talk to you all soon!

Bre

I’ve been doing a lot of research these past couple of months on teaching ESL, Asia, etc but I haven’t seen too many pieces of information on the interview itself? Or maybe I am just not looking in the right place

Anyways, I wanted to ask you all since you have been through the interview process, what were some of the important questions that the schools asked you during your interview?

Did they throw out the old “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

What was the silliest thing your interviewer asked you?

Also can you give a newbie some tips on how to handle yourself during an ESL teaching interview??

Thank you!

Bre

Make sure you have a passport from an English-speaking country should be high on your list. You won’t be able to get a work permit for teaching English if you don’t have one.

I’m American so that is already taken care of!

But I understand the confusion seeing as my location says Amsterdam and I have the Dutch flag on here…

So…back on topic…

In Taiwan, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” roughly translates to “Are you going to stay in Taiwan or move back to your country?”

Schools are looking for experience teaching. This kind of experience might be gained not as a classroom teacher, not as a TEFL/TESOL Master’s degree student, but rather teaching other people things, working at a summer camp, teaching your coworkers how to flip hamburgers, or something that sounds like you’re trying to get the job.

If you can get certification to teach legally in America, I believe that you can get a quite nice job here, and any interview will be just a check to see you’re not _____.
