Iranian terrorists captured in Iraq!

Caught red-handed
The American military is holding at least four Iranians in Iraq, including men the Bush administration called senior military officials, who were seized in a pair of raids late last week aimed at people suspected of conducting attacks on Iraqi security forces, according to senior Iraqi and American officials in Baghdad and Washington.

Much about the raids and the identities of the Iranians remained unclear on Sunday. American officials offered few details. They said that an investigation was under way and that they wanted to give the Iraqi government time to figure out its position. A Bush administration official said the Iranian military officials held in custody were suspected of being members of the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. It has been involved in training members of Hezbollah and other groups that the Americans regard as terrorist organizations.
Proof that the meddling mullahs are trying to overthrow the democratic state of Iraq, and yet… things are strangely quiet- no triumphant announcement of this from Washington

“Politically delicate”- somewhat of an understatement considering

The man of whom Bush said at that time

Now anybody who first heard that would be somewhat less impressed if they realised that His Eminence is also the commander of the Badr Brigades, whose appointee as Interior Minister basically turned the Iraqi police into an extension of the Shiite death squads.

But the reason al-Hakim was in Washington was to try to work out the Hadley plan to unite SCIRI, the Kurds, and the (Sunni) Iraqi Islamist Party in a so-called moderate government that would freeze out Moqtada sl-Sadr.

Everybody except, apparently, the Bush Administration, realises SCIRI is an Iran-dominated group, and that the Badr Brigades in particular are heavily controlled by the Quds force- they used to under the direct command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

So a lttle embarrassing for Bush when his new bestest buddy turns out to be sneaking Iranian agents into the country to blow up Iraqi government forces.

Lovely anti-Bush spinn…gold star on your notebook !

“Bestest Buddy” is it? How about “enemy of my enemy” until proven otherwise? Does this prove otherwise? If so, do you think this will go without being acted upon? What else does your crystal ball tell us should be done?

Why no comment on “Blair meets Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim”? Which occured after his most recent visit to Wash, D.C…Hmmmm?
A “Google” on Abdul Aziz al-Hakim doesn’t paint the same picture as yours…yet?
In reading the NYT article MikeN it looks like this is something rather different that what you proclaim.
U.S. Is Holding Iranians Seized in Raids in Iraq tells of a routine intel snatch op that, as of yet, has not been completely debriefed to the general press.
Your interpretation, which you certainly are allowed to voice, looks like speculation tinged with personal projection.

If Abdul Aziz al-Hakim is Irans man at the top level in Iraq per your “discoveries” then maybe you should contact the NSC with your information?
Might get a bigger Gold Star from the DC guys.

Thanks awfully

Do Not Do Deals To Turn Iraq Over To Tehran’s Man In Baghdad?- just a thought.

Okay,“Bush’s Poodle meets al-Hakim”

Satisfied?

Not sure what the “yet” is supposed to mean, but SCIRI split from the original Iraqi Dawa party specifically because Dawa rejected Khomeneism, i.e. clerical rule, hence the name -“Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq”, patterned on the Islamic Revolution in Iran. The Badr Brigades were under the command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and fought for Iran against Iraq during the war.

As for Mr. Hakim’s aversion to “the murder of innocent life”, one of the main reasons for the delay in forming the new administration of PM al-Maliki was al-Hakim’s insistence that the Interior Ministry remain under control of Bayan Jabr, an Iraqi Minister representing the Badr Organisation (not even SCIRI) who had been widely reviled for turning the Iraqi police into Shiite death squads- remember this?

How so? I’m not speculating in any way; in fact I’m taking the American report at face value , which is more than many in Iraq and elsewhere are doing- a lot of people there are speculating that it’s an American plant to discredit Iran and torpedo the Baker Commission.

Oh, I’m sure they’ve been contacted by plenty, and are totally aware of the situation- it’s pounding the facts through the heads of Bush/Cheney that remains the problem- of course, things are so fucked up that they’re desperately trying to latch onto any solution to get their ass out of the sling without admitting the obvious- that they totally screwed up.

Two of the men held are Iranian diplomats who were subsequently released.

This may just be part of W’s secret plan: the Iraqis get so fed up that they kick the US out of their country, so he looks good because the troops are withdrawn but isn’t a chicken who “cuts and runs”. Iran, here we come!
