Is it legal to record a phone call?

That can’t be right. My lawyer told me to secretly record whenever I was dealing with my Ex-wife. I did so. And the secret recordings helped a lot in court. Judge was fine with them.

I agree. If one is going to make a claim on this forum that something is legal or illegal in Taiwan, it does not seem to be asking a lot to expect this to be backed up with a link to the relevant law or to some other authoritative website that explains how this is so.

My Android phone has a voice recording app that can be flicked on via the phone app. When a call comes in that starts out with a rapid stream of Chinese, I touch the button and the phone declares in Mandarin,“recording is in progress!” At least, I believe that is what it means. 9 out of 10 times, this is followed by a click from the caller. Saves me from the whole “nin hui jiang Yingwen?” song-and-dance. It’s one of my favorite apps.

Mine records automatically without any apparent notification to the other party.

My last phone used to do that. I miss that function. I did not set it up on my own and I tried to find an app that did that when I got my latest phone model
