Is July a good month for visiting?

I’m trying to determine if now is a good time to be visiting Taiwan. I look at the weather everyday and it seems to always be showing that it’s cloudy or there’s a chance of rain. Last thing I want is to have my whole trip ruined by bad weather the entire time. I’m worried this weather will keep up into July. Anyone that’s been there awhile familiar with how the weather is during this time? Is August a better time possibly?

No, summer is too hot.
Of course, if you like hot weather, that may be OK.
Still, it’s hot and humid, and the air pollution is even worse than in the winter.

Hot, humid, nasty. By far, the best time to visit is late October. Autumn here is wonderful.

It’s just hot? I’m mainly wondering if it’s cloudy and raining. I don’t particularly mind hot weather.

Yes. Mostly cloudy and often raining. Hot. Humid. Lots of mold.
At least today its only hot, humid and cloudy. No actual rain. Yet. After this season, we get typhoon season, which is hot, humid and cloudy, unless a typhoon’s approaching, when you’ll get maybe a day of clear skies and sun before the storm.
Definitely the best time to visit is in the late autumn. Its nice at that time.

I don’t mind hot if I’m sitting on a beach somewhere in the shade of a palm tree, sipping something cold, with the sea breeze in my hair. Taipei is not like that. It’s still hot in the autumn, but more bearably so.

Depends what you want to do ? And how tolerant you are to heat? I myself have always favored the months of july and august while growing up in Taiwan.

They are HOT and great for swimming in the ocean.

Drinking lots of beer and havin FUN>

I’m not sure what to say about exactly what I’d be doing, pretty much just exploring, walking around a lot.

Does the sun actually appear during August at least? As I said, Im mostly just looking for whenever it is I can trust I won’t be getting nothing but overcast skies with chances of rain all the time. Are there storms/typhoons typically throughout all the months until October or anything? I can’t figure out Taiwan too well, it almost seems like not a single month is without chances of rain and a storm or something.

Think Northern Europe with heat. Yes it may rain, but that isn’t so bad because its hot. It depends on where you’re coming from and what you’re used too. I think summers are great by and large hot and sunny with the chance of a typhoon that will make it cloudy and nasty for about a week either side.

Erm… dude! Look at a map! Large areas of Taiwan are semi-tropical, so, um… yeah. Lots of rain.
Between now and September-October-November, you really cannot even begin to guess your chances of arriving for a holiday and getting clear skies.
In autumn there are still a few typhoons that can ruin your plans, but at least you’ll have a greater chance of getting the kind of weather you want. Still VERY from guaranteed, though. Taiwan’s a wet place usually.

It’s hardly been too long since I’ve even decided to go to Taiwan, I know nothing about their climate or anything. That’s why I’m confused and looking for the days where there’s sun :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m hopefully going to just choose July or August sometime. I honestly don’t see a main reason to wait since it appears that no matter when you go there’s always going to be some weather that you weren’t exactly looking forward to. Can’t be helped. Plus I don’t want to wait around forever to get to go!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Its a very rainy island . Especially up north. The south is a lot better in this respect. As iv put in another thread, from my personal recollection over the years living in Taipei.

It goes something like this. Nov = some cold fronts possible and some rainstorms coming off a generally nice October. December can be a bit of an indian summer , but possible to get a cold front or two or three (they last a few days each time) or four. Jan/Feb/Mar = rain rain rain rain and cold cold cold cold and overcast skies 24/7

April = possible thunderstorms and days getting a bit warmer.
May = Much warmer, summer is approaching but Mid-May to Mid June we have the Plum Rains. Which is A HELLA LOT OF RAIN pretty much every doggone day.

July/August = generally very hot and chance of practically daily thunderstorms in the afternoons, usually short duration.

Sept = much cooler weather, generally pleasant, not overly rainy

Oct= again generally pleasant, not too much rain. Typhoon season is pretty much over.

Now on to typhoons. they can hit pretty much anytime from May to Nov, but are most prevalent I would say June to September. With some biggies generally happening in July/August/Sept.

Some years not many typhoons of note. Other years a few whoppers.

No doubt you have heard of last years MORAKOT . A truly devastating typhoon to certain parts of the island.

Hsinchu and points south have A LOT LOT LOT less rain over-all then points north and often suffer from the possibility of drought .

Theres your simple weather synopsis of the Roc of Taiwan.

p.s.
Yes just go !! You will have a lot of fun. The weather will just be incidental. I would do July/August !! Its a blast.

oops

I totally agree. The temperature is mild and it probably has the least chance of rain.

Summers here remind me a bit of summers in Miami, just add smog. The mornings are generally OK, but the sweltering hot afternoons usually bring thunderstorms.

July/August, as stated, are the hottest, muggiest months. You’ll sweat a lot and find yourself ducking into convenience stores to cool off. But if you plan to go high up into the mountains, it can be quite pleasant there in the summer. Or if you plan to do some hiking near nice cool mountain streams where you can take a swim, the summer months are the best time for it.

Mid-October to mid-December boast the best weather on average, but even then there are chances of typhoons. And in El Nino years those months can be wetter than normal. But the odds for good weather are best in the fall.

July is hot and often rainy. So is August. Also, those months are high season (school’s out), which means tickets to Taiwan are probably more expensive and difficult to come by, hotels are more likely to be filled, and tourist areas are likely to be even more crowded than they usually are. That doesn’t mean a summer trip would be miserable. But, overall, you really should consider coming in October or November, when the weather is usually best.
