I really hope not because it is in my bedroom and I can’t catch it. In fact I can’t even find it now. I tried to throw a bowl over it with the plan of then slipping a peice of paper under and then moving it outside but thing moves like greased lighting. Seriously quick. Holy smokes!
I have found 4 in my house this week…mountain living…yikes. They are SUPER fast…and enjoy dropping off the ceiling. One ran towards me on the ceiling, then jumped down and landed on a vertical box!(my cereal box) I can’t stand not knowing where they are, and they always find a way to disappear.
I’m with Chris. It clearly has the same markings on the head and legs.
I was originally disturbed when I started on the wiki entry:
Freaky. Just finished a delightfully nasty vampire book called “Let the Right One In”. I don’t like exceptional agility.
Nevertheless, it’s just a sweet little spider and the rest bodes well:
Brown huntsmen are welcomed in many homes as they feed on pests such as cockroaches and silverfish.
It’s unlikely that even Wikipedia would have left out the most horrific details (like it’s “the deadliest spider in existence”). So be happy that you have these agile sweeties eating your cockroaches (a more common problem in Taiwan).
Silverfish on the other hand, I find freaky. So tell your spidey to bring in friends.
You managed to convince the creature to sit down for the original picture, but now can’t even find it. How did you manage to snap it in the first instance?
oh, and if you hit it it pretends to be dead. I always try to take them out, but once one hid out of sight so I moved a table to get to it, hurting it a little. It lay there dead(legs all curled up)…I swept it up only to have it run like hell when he realised it’s not working.
Regretfully I have far less finesse when it comes to bugs in my home. Its SPLAT, SQUASH,MASH or SMASH on sight. (sorry bugs but you guys just bug the *hit outa me)
the spiders need to go because I like cockroaches.
Once a spider hid under my sink and in the end I sprayed it, tried to hit it…it was horrible. Then I tried to flush it out with a pipe and water…I felt like I was torturing it. And even after it dies the muscles still move so I was in a state by the time it stopped moving.
Now I always try to keep it alive.
All spiders are venomous, bob. Some less so than others. Some will bite. Some won’t. Some don’t have big enough teeth to bite a manboy. That one CAN bite. But it won’t. And if it did, it wouldn’t give you anything more than a wee tale to tell the next day – “I got mauled! MAULED! I tells ya! By a spider the size of my car! Right in my house!”
EYE! For example. EYE! Got bit by a giant wood spider just yestreen. It CHEWED my thumb. CHEWED it! I could even see the marks it left, because they have pretty big old teeth on them. Less itchy than even a mozzie bite, though.
Yah true about most spiders not haveing adequate “jaws” to bite a human properly. They evolved venom for the purpose of killing small or similar sized prey to them. Even the much feared Brazillian wandering spider has problems biting humans. Despite having the most potent spider venom in the world it cannot inject large amounts into humans due to its “jaw” structure! Which is lucky for us humans i guess!
Anyway, and I hate to admit this but we ended up spraying it with raid. It was showing up here and there freaking the hell out of the missus and we trying to capture it (no bloddy way!) and knockng stuff all over the place, so… Anyway, the raid sure as heck slowed it down. I even have it’s death throes on video if you guys really wanna see it. Bloody sad actually. That was a gorgeous spider.
oh man that is sad. Damn you just put me in a bad mood. You could of told me you just beat the shit out of some taxi driver and I would have been happy but not this.
