What Italian Restaurants would people recommend? I’m looking for thin crust pizza and simple but tasty pasta…
Mama mia in Shulin, Fushing rd.
Cosi o Cosi on Dunhua South Road (just North of Zhongxiao East) for thin crust pizza.
There is a bit of info in [url=http://tw.forumosa.com/t/best-italian-restaurants-in-taipei-for-valentines/11873/7 thread.[/url]
Not sure how current it is though. ![]()
There is also Capone’s, owned by our very own Taverncaptain.
I haven’t been there myself yet, but they have a thread around here somewhere.
This place is very good. Va Bene pasta pizza
Their pizza is very thin crust and priced from 120 – 200NT
Pasta is awesome and good prices too.
They now have 3 locations I think.
According to their menu, they have “Peanut butter and pork pizza”.
Mmm mmm mmm!
La Giara was recommended to me this evening. It’s at 2F, No. 352 Sec 1, Fuxing S. Rd, Taipei, down the street from the Howard Hotel.
It’s also been mentioned rather favorably in this forum a few times by veritable chowhounds. YMMV.
Are they still in business? Took the train out there more than a year ago only to find them closed. ![]()
The Kiss Cafe near Jiantan MRT station used to be good. Unfortunately, before my last visit there about a month ago, they changed entirely to a standard Taiwanese-type menu versus the excellent Italian menu they had before. Apparently, the chef left and with him, all Italian food expertise. Besides the problem that the nice Italian food is gone, the other problem is that the higher prices appropriate for their old menu have remained even though the new menu is ordinary. That is really too bad as this was a great place before.
BTW, if anyone knows where that chef went, I’d love to know. We were desperate enough to ask last time, but for some reason, they were reluctant to tell us.
La Giara, mentioned above, is excellent, but pricey. For more moderately priced pizza and pasta, try Georgio off Yenji Street, just north of Ren-ai Rd section 4 (reasonable food and satisfactory service) For thin crust pizza, my fellow alcoholics like Citizen Cain’s offerings, even though I’m not enthralled by them myself.
I know they are closed on Mondays. That might have been why? I think he keeps odd hours.
Totally agree with you, would say that Giorgio’s is perhaps the most authentic Northern Italian cuisine available in Taipei. Not sure if they still do Pizzas. Their Gnockis on a four cheese sauce are absoultely outstanding.
For me, the best two restaurants in town are by far and away Chianti Da An Rd. Sec. 1 #92 just south of Chung Hsiao E. Rd. and to a lesser extent L’Amico (first alley to the left past Tun Hwa as you head east on Minsheng.
I can’t believe no-one has mentioned that place… what’s it called again? …
Wonderful home-made thin-crust pizza and salads but no pasta. Come on, surely SOMEBODY must remember the name.
Could you give us a hint, I kind of had the name of the place on my tongue but then again not sure if there is only one or if there are more, all far too much, considering it is friday. Think though Forest Gump named his first shrimp fishing boat after somebody involved with the place.
Jeez, just can’t think of it. ![]()
For those who have been to Va Bene, which location is best?
Ive only been to the Kwang Fu location and its super crowded. Next time I will try the Shi Da location.
Maryjane’s has been the best pizza I’ve had here. It’s simple, with a good crust, and cheap.
