I've noticed that non-Americans can't speak English properly

It’s sad, really. Here is my politically correct, scientific assessment of what non-Americans sound like when they speak English.

English: Snobs.

Irish: Hicks.

Welsh: Hicks.

Scottish. Hicks, on a good day. Half the time they can’t even speak comprehensible English, the poor sots.

South Africans: Hicks.

Australians: Hicks.

New Zealanders: Hicks. Not quite as hickish as Australians, but pretty close.

Canadians: Some of them sound just like Americans, and therefore speak perfect English, but the rest sound like those hot-potato-in-the-mouth Scandinavian-Americans who live in the far north. It’s a tragic situation.

I realize that the above is something of an over-generalization. For example, there are plenty of English people who sound more hickish than snobbish, and I would like to go on record right now and apologize to any English hicks I may have offended. Likewise, to say that South Africans sound like hicks is something of an insult to hicks worldwide. I mean, they actually think words like “bru” and “lekker” can be used in polite company. It’s unfortunate that anyone should be born a non-US citizen, but to grow up without the ability to speak proper English is just plain lamentable. I weep for you, my non-American friends.

I’m with ya.

Gao, yous from the south ain’t ya boy? I’ll type real slow fer ya just like the good ol Lord would ask me to if he was sittin right here on the porch beside my hounddog and shotgun yawing away like we was friends for life.

The English sound like snobs? You should change channels from time to time. Hugh Grant really doesn’t represent many Englishmen at all.

HG

I’ll bet you say aboat instead of about. Goddamn Canadians.

Cease an’ sekkle mon brev…

I think people from the Caribbean islands sound cool.

nice try, bama boy.

Jealousy is unattractive.

I live with a Canadian and two South Africans. I could be a translator.

You forgot to use the term “you all” and “all, you all”

I hope this helps all of you non-Americans. I know I’ve benefited greatly.

How to speak in American

EDIT: Another great example of superb American English (Gao’s the one wearing the handkerchief under his nose): Learning English

I wonder what Gao Bo Han would make of us non native speakers?

Are there any proper standards for a global language?

Sure it is , but judging people by accent is a very command stupid phenomenon which exists in anywhere.

Plus I dont think your title makes sense… define “speak English properly” :unamused:

If you spoke properly like GBH, you’d know it was yall and all-yaw

LOL.

:bravo:

FACT: Americans invented English in the late 18th century.

FACT: English is actually an acronym; it stands for Enlightened New-world Global Language Idiom Standard Headquarters; it was named so by Benjamin Franklin himself some time in the spring of 1760 A.D.

FACT: The British Isles are the result of early attempts at nation-building by the Americans. Although success in the colonization efforts is still inconclusive, the native inhabitants of the isles adopted a form of the ENGLISH that was taught by the American conquerors.

More facts will be revealed in time–when you are ready to receive the Truth. :grandpa:

Oh you don’t count. My pity is only directed towards native speakers.

You just don’t understand American culture.

The appropriate rendering is “y’all” which is a contraction of the words “you” and “all.” Hope that was helpful.

Isn’t that a contridictio in terminus?

Besides, isn’t the common concensus that Ay-Merry-Canz have never even heard of English, much less speak it?

Half of what passes for “American Culture” could quite easily be added to Engrish.com
