I was just wondering if anyone has seen any JRT for sale anywhere in Taiwan. I had a friend say they were very hard to find and if you did find one they would cost 65,000 TWD. I have one in the US that I am bringing to Taiwan so I know their will be one on the island.
I havenât noticed them around very much.
In fact, I canât remember seeing even one here (and I used to go hunting with them back home, so I should notice).
For sale? No idea, sorry. Iâm sure someone else can give you a more definitive answer.
My dad got one in HsinchuâŚdefinitely wasnât 65,000 or he wouldnât have bothered, unless prices have changed in the last year.
my friends bought 2 for about NT20 - 30 000 when they got hereâŚthen realised how crappy breeders are and they just rescued one from an organization.
I bought my first dog here, and as much as I love and adore her, rescuing my other dog was such a better option. I feel good about the deed, and I love her just as much as my first dog. She is a monster of a dog, but her good naturedness and her presence is just so rewarding.
Breeders are terrible here and they treat animals like garbage. Donât support them, and rescue a pup from the SPCA or another local rescue organization.

I second that. Breeders here are TERRIBLE. I have a rescue. All of my friends here have rescues. I have heard several people say that dogs that come from breeders here are slightly retarded and/or have lots of health practices from poor breeding practices. Plus, so many people here get dogs because they think they are SO CUTE, but dump them after having to bathe, groom, and pick up their shit (people donât realize most dogs shit twice per day :loco: ) Because of that situation, even if you are breed picky, you will be able to find the kind of dog you are looking for. I have seen JRT on websites up for adoption here in the past. The rescue associations get tons of the more active/hyper breeds: dachshunds, schnauzers, chihuahuas, etc. People canât handle them
I wouldnât say that strays are a safer bet. Animals in Taiwan are dodgy. Animals all over the world are dodgy with the crap that they are fedâŚbut I couldnât buy a dog knowing that I pay into that breederâs bank account. I meanâŚNT60 000 for a dog? The shots etc costs less than NT2000. They are making so much money and not spending it on the animals in their care.
I have 6 dogs, one pedigree(with fake papers) that was bought for NT30 000 and then 5 strays. All of them have their own problems, but yeah the pedigree is the most screwed up (grew up in a cage, hips misformed, psycho behaviour)
lol I could import some of the best working lines in England for less that that (airfare included). Those would be proven working dogs. However, they would be wasted on Taiwnese though so I never would ha. Taiwanese breed Terriers on how cute they are not what they can do in the field. That is the only criteria they have. There are basically no decent breeders of working Terriers here unless you want a game bred APBT. (which are still considered Terriers by some).
I was actually asked to import a line of working Terriers into Taiwan but I said no. Working Terriers need to be worked not just for ker ai factor .
I did meet one person with Jack Russel here and it was a decent little dog. The owner used to constantly hit it with a bamboo cane when getting too feisty.
âhe not good dog he not good dog he too much energyâ Great way to turn a potentially good working Terrier into a lunatic fear biter. Taiwanese and working Terriers do not make a good match except with the rare exception. Itâs just not in their culture.
Example of how working dog breeding is generally not in their culture; my little Bull Terrier. I met some other mini bull terrier owners in the park. They kept saying âwhy is your dog not scared of other dogs and can exercise for so long?â âwhy is your dog so strong for a small dogâ. blah blah blah. I asked them where they got their dogs from. They said âIt is from our own breeding programâ. I asked âhow did you decide and select which ones to breedâ. They said âby looking at which ones looked cute and had the black ring round its eye then breeding those togtherâ.
I said âso temprement and phsycial ability had nothing to do with your choice of which dogs to breed to each otherâ. They said âhuhâ?
I said well what are his parents like. They said âvery cuteâ I asked what about personality and they said âoh also very nervous so we hoped the offspring would be betterâ. I said âwell if you bred nervous dogs with nervous dogs you may get nervous pupsâ. They said âhuhâ anyways no need to carry on lol
I have seen a few JRTâs here and some are very nice looking. What I also see here are that the people that donât know the difference in the Parsons Terrier and the short legged JRT or what some people call Irish JRT. My JRT came to me fromn Ireland and he is both a field dog, smart, and the perfect house or apartment dog. The Parsons needs a lot of space but my JRT needs only three things to make him happy. My children, a soft bed, and popcorn. ![]()
Can you put up a picture? I always like to see a Jack Russell.
I would put a picture up of Eddie Boy if I knew how. He is sitting in my lap as I type.
You simply need to create an account with a photo hosting website like photobucket.com. Then upload a photo to your account. Then copy the âdirect linkâ of the photo and paste it here on Forumosa, highlight it, and then click âImgâ.
Try it, for the benefit of all us JR connoisseurs.
I like Jack Russels. Good ratters. We always had a few about the place because the damn springers and labs were useless for that kind of stuff. Personable wee dugs.
I donât know how to put a picture on here. I have a picture or 2 of him on this computer.
I will tell you how. It should take less than ten minutes. You do not upload photos to Forumosa directly, you must upload them to an image hosting website first and then paste the imageâs link on Forumosa. So, you must create an account (free) with an image hosting website, such as photobucket. Simply go to http://register.photobucket.com/ and complete this form:

You need to create a unique username, so choose something very original. When you complete the form and click, âSign me up!â they automatically send an email to the email address you gave them. So check your email straight away! You just open the email and click on the link in it and your account will be ready to use.
That is the hard part.
Go to photobucket and login, click âMy Homeâ in the top left corner (like in the screen below) and then click on the big green button in the middle of the screen that says, âUpload Images and Videosâ.

THEN when the little box appears (a file browser) find the picture on your computer and click OK.
You might need to wait a little for the file to upload. When it has finished uploading you will see a thumbnail of the image. Click on it.

Then copy the direct link.

(Nice hocks! :bravo:)
Then simply paste the link here on Forumosa, highlight it all with your cursor and click the, âImgâ button

Youâll notice my handwriting via mouse is improving.
Then submit your post.
Well, that killed a bit a fuckin time on a Friday afternoon. ![]()

I love your recursive post (using photos on Photobucket posted as images on Forumosa to teach users how to put photos on Photobucket so that they can post images on Forumosa) but mostly, I agree, your handwriting via mouse is impressive.
:bravo:

I like the use of your word âconnoisseursâ. It is about time we Terrier fans got more respect!
Thanks everyone. I will give photobucket a try.
Eddie has been on the island for 7 weeks now. He spent 3 weeks in dog jail and the rest with me and the kids. It is so funny to watch the way he is around my 5 year old daughter. She treats him like a doll, carries him around like a baby and he never get mad or growls at her but take him out side and if he seeâs another dog that tries to bluff him then he becomes this 18 pound street fighter. Their used to be a few dogs hanging around the apartment building but Eddie has put the fear of God into them. What they say about JRT is correct. They have a 20 pound body with a 200 pound heart . Eddie will take on all comers but allow my daughter to lay on him, pull his ears, even take food out of his mouth. I know I go on and on but Eddie is as perfect a family dog as a man could have.

Here is my buddy. Registered Name: Prince Edward of Boone Camp aka Eddie Boy
