Jagger turns 60! Rock on Mick

Happy Birthday Mick Jagger - the greatest rock and roller ever.

Can you believe this - Mick Jagger turns 60 years old today and he is still rocking!

I hate to admit it but years ago I gave away tickets for a Rolling Stones concert that I had bought because I thought the Stones - at that time in their early 30’s were over the hill! That was when the saying “don’t trust anybody over 30” applied to rockers as well as everybody else. Oh how times do change.

The Stones have put out about 40 albums or so over the last 40 years. So many good ones. Which ones do you play from time to time?

OK, Pete Townshend. But all the same… 60?

Many happy returns, Mick – a worthy fellow alumnus of the world’s finest university. [BTW, why don’t we Brits have our own nice word equivalent to alumnus?]

I wonder if he’s still pulling the birds the way he used to – I bet he still is! (Though he didn’t get far when he tried to chat up one of my Chinese friends in a restaurant in London – she thought he was gross and gave him the brushoff. It’s nice to think that in at least one instance I’ve succeeded where Mick has failed. But I’d swap his scorecard for mine any day!)

My favourite Stones album is Goat’s Head Soup. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but it served as an anthem for a stirring part of my life and therefore carries rousing associations.

I’m not sure I’d want to attend a Stones concert now, even if I were offered free tickets, but I still love to listen to their music when the right mood strikes.

I like GHS. Its not my favorite Stone’s album… but I like some of the tunes… I like Winter and Dancing w/ Mr. D. And Star Star is good.

I guess my fave Stones’ record though is Exile On Main Street.

Their early raw blues stuff on Deram was fucking incandescent. Of their later stuff, either Beggar’s Banquet or Exile on Main Street remains the best they ever did, depending on my mood. They never surpassed Exile, although most of their albums since then have their moments, but patchy, patchy stuff.

The British radio has been having a good time laughing about his age…saying that now that he qualifies for free prescriptions he may bankrupt the NHS.

Wonder if Mick and Keith have any reason to worry about…

“Satisfaction” or can they “Get what they need”???

They are Rock Stars (rich and famous).

They are aging, but still alive.

Viagra is for sale.

What’s not to like.

I’m here in Prague and the Stones played last night at Letna. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get tix (which were hen gwei by Prague standards), but we could hear the entire concert from our hostel. We sat outside stoned, and heard the whole show. The finale? Guess!!!
Saturday was Mick’s bday and he’d booked the whole Four Seasons hotel which is right at the corner near Charles Bridge. We meant to go and paparazzi, but when we passed by, there were thousands already. Poor Mick, couldn’t even spend his 60th wandering through the Prague Castle south gardens with us…
It was AMAZING to hear the Stones echoing from Letna across the river from where we stayed. I’ll post a link to a short movie when I get home to download it. You can hear “Paint it Black”.
Btw, if you ever go to Prague with a digital camera, take at least 512 mb compact flash card!

Jumpin’ Jack Flash or Sympathy for the Devil, of course. Lucky you, Fred. They may be washed out travesties and its many years since they produced an album worth buying, but I’d still like to see 'em again.

Or perhaps Gimme Shelter…

Saw the Stones twice… fun fun fun.

Great, very loooong extensive interview with Mick from a few years back, going through the Stones’ entire career chronologically. A must read for any Stones fan - I’m not even that much of a fan, more of a Kinks man myself, but I found it enlightening hearing him talk about all those old Stones albums and songs so frankly.

Bingo Tigerman!
It was a three hour set. And they opened with?

My lucky week, I just caught Gay Pride parade/weekend here in Amsterdam, but I’m off tomorrow to Taiwan. :frowning:
Weather is fantastic! The Amsterdammers are all stylin’ and enjoying the sunny long days on the canals. (They have 16 hours of daylight at the moment) What a laid back city. Well, of course…I LOVE THAT!!
I could live here so easily if it weren’t so stupidly expensive.
