Job interview - help!

Hello, I am new in this forum, I am not familiar with using this forum for asking questions even though I usually read answers about Taiwan from here. So, I have a question but before going into that let me give some context.

Just say that, two days ago I was told by my friend to contact someone regarding job offer as a clerk at a clothes shop in Ximen. So I sent a message asking about the availability of the job offer. The next day the person replied to me, and asking me picture of me, weight and height. This made me feel something isn’t right, but I don’t know for sure, so I am asking users in here. Is it normal for employer to ask about your weight and height before meeting for interview? And then, I asked him about the address of the shop, he said that I can meet him at MRT exit, and then he will take me to the shop. This maybe nothing, but I need to hear some insight from users here.

Thank you in advance, any help would be appreciated.

Sounds a bit dodgy. Be careful. If he won’t provide the address, don’t go. BTW, if you are a foreigner here, you can’t work without a permit with a few exceptions. So make sure you aren’t breaking the law before trying to get work.

Is this a modeling agency or fitness coach job? Seems weird to ask for height of weight.

OP said sales clerk at a clothes shop on Ximen.

I know, that’s what make it sound dodgy.

It’s not ethical and could be breaking employment law, but I can understand why the owner of a clothes shop would be concerned about their employees’ appearance.

I am here with student visa. He didn’t provide me the address. This sounds fishy to me.

I doubt you need the job that badly. If something feels off, it probably is. At a minimum, you should have the address and name of the shop. If they can’t even give that to you, there are a bazillion other jobs you could take that don’t have the potential to have you dragged down a dark alley.

Tell him this is not Tinder. You are looking for a job and not a date.

Then kindly tell him to  off and that you will report him.

I think I interpreted the situation differently. It seems like an attempt to “recruit” new “escorts”.

make sure you get your open work permit if you are worried about getting deported for working

Thank you to everyone for responding to my post. Anyway, my aunt has an extra bike she lives in other city, so how can I get the bike to Taipei? Is post office can do deliver things like bicycle?

If you’re short on money, just ride it to Taipei. If it’s too far take a train and bring it to Taipei.
You have to reserve in advance, ticket is the same price as a person.
You can’t get off the Train at Taipei Main, you’ have to go to Wanhua or Songshan.

What if her aunt is in taichung or somewhere more southern?

Well, I am not short on money, just looking for more convenient way to get the bike to Taipei, the bike is at New Taipei city, Sanchong district.

Ride it back, and report to us about your adventure! : D

Thank you so much

I don’t think I can do that, haha

Just go along the route of the riverside parks. Or go with it on the metro. You will have to pay for the bike to ride, though.

FWIW, Ximen did have the reputation as having a young “escort” kind of business on the sides, like schoolgirls. And old “dance halls where you rent a dancing partner”.
