(Kick me) I accidentally locked my SIM card

 Ummā€¦stupid me, playing with my new cell phone and showing it off, locked my cell phoneā€™s SIM card. I have no idea of where to get the pin number to unlock it. Itā€™s pretty important since this is the only means for people to contact me aside from e-mail and I have phone calls that I need to make, especially in the very near-future and I hope I wonā€™t have to wait until Monday. Itā€™s from Taiwan Cellular, but I purchased the card at a 7-11. I still have the actual card that it punched out from, so I am hoping that the numberā€™s somewhere on that. How do I get the PUK number to unlock my card? Should I visit the night markets and ask them how they do it? I know itā€™s the SIM card thatā€™s locked (I also fooled around with the phone lock, but hopefully, I donā€™t think I succeeded), because I tried moving it to my old cell phone and it asked for the PUK code again. What can I do?

Call 188 - Thatā€™s Taiwan Cellular Customer Service - from a friendā€™s cell phone (make sure friendā€™s phone is also using Taiwan Cellular). Theyā€™ll be able to talk you through it.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you! I will do as soon as I come back from my 1-1.

My Sim card was recently PUK-locked as well. Is the Customer Service Center for Taiwan Mobile (台ē£å¤§å“„大) still the same? Do they have English speaking reps?

ImaniOU, do you remember the outcome from way back in 2003?

Happened to me as well. Yes they have English speaking reps. Theyā€™ll ask you a few questions (name, birthday, etc) to make sure itā€™s really your SIM, then theyā€™ll give you the PUK to unlock it.

Thanks for the info!

After they give you your PUK code is it pretty straightforward to unlock it or do I have to use the this complicated way I found on the internet:

1) Contact your mobile provider (from another phone) and ask for the PUK code. After a security check they will give you an 8-digit number.

2) On the Nexus One tap ā€œEmergency calls onlyā€ and you will be shown the usual dialer (donā€™t worry, it wonā€™t call any emergency service, just show you the dialer!).

3) Think of a new 4-digit PIN number.

4) Type this code into the Nexus Oneā€™s dialer:
05#*

For example:
I received the PUK code 62862993 from my mobile provider and I want my PIN to be 1234:
056286299312341234#*

I am using a Galaxy Nexus.

If I remeber it correctly I put in the PUK (after keying in the wrong PIN three times phone says something along the line of ā€œPlease put in PUKā€) and then my phone asked me to put in a new PIN. But that was on my old backup Nokia. No idea how itā€™s gonna work on the Galaxy Nexus. Just give it a try?

For that reason ā€¦ just keep the original PIN ā€¦ 0000

ā€œSIM card locked. Enter PUK. Contact your service provider for details.ā€

What da PUK?!!!

Someone been trying to access my phoneā€¦hmmmā€¦

A problem that spans generations.

Freaginā€™ did it again. Entered wrong code becauseā€¦

After restart, asks to enter something, Iā€™m thinking password which I enter multiple times, but NO, it wants the SIM card PUK code, which is 0000 by the way for all Changhua SIM cards, not a secret.

But only 3 chances to enter a nonchalant PUK code. Failed.

Donā€™t really need SIM actually.

Only need Wifi, which is everywhere.

So, letā€™s see how long I can go without my SIM card working.

I think can just call them and they will turn it on. Or drop into a shop.

I think thatā€™s not the PUK code youā€™re referring to but rather some other SIM-card-related passcode? My Chunghwa PUK code is eight digits (5893****), for example.

I remember some other passcode necessary for logging in to the Chunghwa app, which I think was 0000 as you said.
