Kissed the asphalt today

Well, what started as a fine sunny day ended in the hospital today.

Kissed the asphalt today in Ankeng, thanx to this rally pilot that cut my path.

Just returned from the hospital, got some x-rays, but have nothing broken. Shoulder ligaments are recked, some skin is still sticking to the asphalt tho.

Typing with on hand doesn’t really work. So, i have to see and wait until tomorrow morning, maybe have to close shop for a week.

belgian pie -
Glad you were not hurt any worse.
Take it easy for a while.

Oh, so now you’re selfconscious? Who will care?

glad to hear you’re still in functional shape, but sorry to hear you went rubber side up… :s

rally pilot? details?..

Glad to hear you survived OK Mr. Pie.

Perhaps if you CAN’T work then this week would the best time to swing by your place and force you to sit down and have a crack at getting thru those 15 belgian beers? Fridge going ok?

Great idea! Housecalls!

it’s kind of difficult typing lefthanded if you’re righthanded … but here’s the story.

I’m coming from Sanxia, driving towards xindian, when i’m almost at th intersection going to yongho, this car comes from xindian an about 30 m in front of me pulls his handbrake and slides in a half u-turn, blocking the road. this is on of th busiest parts of ankeng i remind you. amyway, i manage to slip trough on the right side and meanwhile th car starts driving in the xindian direction and is passing me and cutting me of a little further to enter a parkinglot on that side. i break and the front breaks out and there i go. carpeting the road with my skin, majesty is scratched all the way on the front and right side, handlebar broken, break lever bowed.

the driver is a young guy, but he was very aware he was at fault and offered me 1,000 nt$ :astonished: :noway:

i told the guy to call the police and stick the money were the sun doesn’t shine, i said this is going to cost at least 30k, he offered 20k at the spot but i refused.

police comes but things aren’t noted down, actually nothing happens at all because my chinese is not that good. anyway, other police guy comes that can speak english and says everything is ok. :astonished:

than the guy -who cut me- takes me back to sanxia, the hospital were i meet up with my wife.

the guy also goes bak to ankeng with my wife to take my scooter back to sanxia.

Sorry to hear about the spill man. I know how you feel. Been in a few similar situations. I think if the guy was offering 20K on the spot, you should have just taken it. I doubt that you will get that in the end if you take it to court. Ask Mordeth, it isn’t worth the hassle. My first crash in Taiwan was caused by a guy darting in front of me to cross the road without looking. I went down hard, major skin rash, and scratched fairings. He offered me 7k on the spot I said f**k that! Called police, they came and the cops said that they can’t decide whose at fault, and that if I want I have to take it to court. Then I thought, dam this will drag on forever, so I just said ok give me the 7k. At that point the man says, “I’ll only pay to repair you bike.” Ended up only getting $3000 for the whole ordeal. I think 20k will be more than you will get out of it if you take him to court to ask for more. BTW, if you need some help getting the Majesty fixed-up PM me. My freind’s shop is right around the Nan Shih Chaio MRT station. He’s a very honest and capable mechanic.

Oh, so now you’re selfconscious? Who will care?[/quote]

While we are on the subject of kissing the road. I’ll be away for 2 weeks Jd from tomorrow. You can borrow the RZR if you want to go for a ride with MJB.

Truant and Mr He can borrow my mountain bike. You guys can borrow anything but my squishy one.

Thanks for the offer. Have you got a seat somewhere for that bike, not just the post?

That sounds great! How can I get at it??

Mjb’s bike just blew up. He phoned me 2 seconds ago and asked to borrow mine while walking breathlessly to school. Anazing that I can post it is available and have his break down at the same time.

Hopefully he will have it fixed really soon. It needed help or to become a handy boat anchor.

I’m going to be closed until Friday at least, will let you guys know if due my injuries I’ll have to close longer.

Meanwhile I’m going to enjoy my free days, although painfull days, everytime I make a wrong move.

I took a walk by your place this AM when my son was at swimming lessons. Glad to see you closed and resting. Sucks that you cant move much! :frowning:

Take care of yourself.

Belgian Pie, sorry to hear of the accident. Glad things were not any worse.

Take care of yourself & hope you make a complete recovery soon.

Same thing happened to me about a year ago. Bike’s on its side and scratched to hell, broken mirror and clutch lever, very sore shoulder, bloody knee and the police officer looks at me and says"No problem!" :loco:

People need to assume their responsibilities when they drive like idiots and make you crash. I would go after this guy for all the damages he caused to you, your bike and also for the loss of income because you closed shop. That’s regardless of how nice and understanding he is about his mistake. Maybe he’ll think about it next time before pulling the e-brake on a busy road…

Get well soon and best of luck.

bobepine

This morning the guy who caused my accident came by and payed me 35k, 15k more than he would have payed on Monday.

Majesty is fixed and will cost approx. 8-10k, hospital probably 3k, so I got some money for the days I had to close the business, not enough I think personally but couldn’t have it better I guess.

Shoulder’s still painfull depending on how I move and use force.

My wife just told me that if you didn’t go to the police within 5 days to report an accident there is no way you could ever get it filed again.
