Whacking up rents because a business is successful is so daft. The number of times I see vacant space/claw machines where once there was a decent restaurant.
The business sense here boggles the mind. The landlord could have negotiated a reasonable increase on the lease renewal. Now, the tenant will probably be looking for a new location well in advance, and who’s gonna want to move into that space next?
Indeed. A landlord who smashes stuff up if he doesn’t get his way.

This is killing every UK town. There’s almost 0 independent and small business owners in the UK high street now. Landlords keep jacking up rent. It’s all big companies with shops now. Every town is starting to look exactly the same with the same shops and restaurants.

Just the same chains. There’s no reason to shop in town anymore. I can’t remember the last time I went. Also makes me not care to visit other UK towns.
Pretty sure claw machines would be vandalized day 1 here.

The UK high street makes me appriciate Taiwan a lot.
Its just boarded up shite and chains as andrew says. Cafe nero, costa and fast food. Real shops are just being allowed to die off. Everyone uses amazon for most things. Meanwhile here I can take a 5 min walk down the road and find almost anything I need.

There is a store not far from my home, where I always go if I need anything he has, even though ordering online would be more convenient with more options.
He treats customers very well, has 4,9 stars rating and we need to cherish such small businesess where we are respected much more than just a number.
