Last year before getting APRC, looking for recommendations to meet the new salary requirements

Hello Folks. Im approcahing my year 5 towards APRC. ive been here about 6years, but had to reset after the first year because of a family emergency. I went to NIH and they told me that the income requirement for this year is 708000, and 2027 it will increase. I currently work at a buxiban, great boss, decent wages (900/hr), 3 day workweek, the location is a 50 minute commute, but the job is turnkey. good materials, lesson plans take me less than 1 hour a week. dream job as far as cramschools go. BUT, there is no way Im going to make the income requirement for permanent residency. since my contract starts from september, and my arc is from may, i need to secure something for september, have a masters degree, a couple US sub licenses, and plenty of experience. have taught anatomy and some other medical courses at a few colleges in the US. my current school is not going to give me enough hours to make it a solution, and it seems quite difficult to pick up extra work on my free days. Im lookong into public schools for stable income (buxiban pay is light over new years and summer). not looking forward to grinding out 40hour weeks, or rolling the dice on a new admin that could be supportive, or not. originally, my plan was to pa claim extra pay and just pay the taxes, but the newer rules eliminate that option. wondering if anyone has found a work around. 708000 means 60k/month, with zero disruptions, so I figure 70k will allow for breaks and vacations. Anyone found a creative way to make extra income that is not a 40 hour week? Im not opposed to working, just realistic about working at a good school, as it seems to behit or miss. especially if I hire on at thenew years break. Thanks for reading!

Take your credentials outside the cities. Go rural.

I would argue that getting your APRC is one of the most important things for your life in Taiwan. Obviously can’t account for leave due to sickness, but you should absolutely not intentionally take any time off for fun during this year. You never know what is going to happen and if you are short 10k because you wanted to hangout in Japan or something for a weekend you are going to be chasing an ever increasing salary minimum.

It’s not just about making some extra cash as well. Since you are on a work visa (I assume), this income is going to need to come from one source. I’m guessing your best bet is to get into the public school system. The salary should be enough and most importantly it will be stable. You will have to give up your cram school job though, but worth it for the freedom that an APRC gives.

thanks for the reply. i agree to not take time off. what i meant by time off was the CNY and summer breaks. in buxiban system, feb, july, and august pay is about half of normal .

feel free to private message me with any solid schools to check out.

I’m not that helpful.
