Latest Taiwan prices VS the BAy Area , california

I been watching a buncha youtube vids by largely koreans about visits to taiwan and they showed a bunch of restaurants and what they ate and what they paid. I must say prices are a lot more than i remember them being. Of course i remember them in 1999 when i first left and again in 2012 on my last visit. Can you guys enlighten ol tommy on the latest prices?

A lot of the meals at the restaurants seem to be 600 to 900nt per person? For Shabu Shabu at a dedicated and nice Shabu Shabu place.

Last i remember it was round 250nt to 300nt per person in 2012? And the hotpot places in the basement of dept stores were round 120 to 150nt per?

How much is gas nowadays? Here regular is bout 4.20 to 4.50 depends on the brand and which station. And Calif prices are at least a dollar more per gallon then other states im told.

Most simple restaurants priced their meals at around 18 dollars per person to which you need to add sales tax and expected 20pct tip. I tip 10 to 15pct.

Take outs are no cheaper but they expect tips too, but i only give a buck on take out.

Basically eating at a restaurant consider 20 to 30 per person tax/tip included for most regular places. Higher end will run 70 to 100 each or even up to 200 each for a nice steakhouse, etc, with one glass of wine.

Bars at hotels now typically charge 12 to 15 for a pint of beer and 20 dollars average for a SHOT . Was at a nice hotel in Newport Beach recently and shots at the hotel bar were typically 20 plus. With some select items being way higher. There were some whiskeys priced at 350 dollars a shot !! And the most expensive was a louis 13th cognac at 650 dollars a shot of 2 oz.
Jaysus, i wonder if anyone actually orders a shot? Mustve just won the lotto.

I would say most bars are going to be bout 10 bucks for a pint of beer plus plus.
Macdonalds is bout 10 bucks for a meal give or take. Same goes for ohter fast food. 10 to 15 dollars being more common.

Hole in the wall restaurants count on 15 to 20 each for a plate. Say a bowl of soup at a viet place, bowl of noodles etc.

Four typos in the title. :face_holding_back_tears:

Of course, it’s always a bit subjective, but my take for Taiwan (North):

  • “Simple” meal (Bafang, Beef Soup, …): $150-250
  • “Regular” meal (simple set, might have a dessert and/or starter): $300-$600
  • “Luxury” “Premium” meal (buffet / all-you-can-eat): $800-$1500
  • “Luxury”: $3000 up. Not my kind of world.

Hot pot should fall into the same price ranges depending on your expectations.

South Taiwan,

Sit down Burger € 10-20, high-end Japanese € 100+, steak place € 70-100, Kyushu from home in Japan is cheaper for many items (Taiwan has very low end cheap, lower than night markets which are not so cheap)
