Learning to use Excel

Hi guys I’m trying to learn how to use Excel. I want to get good enough to be able to use it an educational administrative role. I’ve found two very helpful tutorials on the interwebs: http://spreadsheets.about.com/od/excelformulas/ss/2010-12-25-excel-2010-format-tutorial-pt-2_2.htm & http://www.baycongroup.com/excel2007/01_excel.htm

There is a paid course available through Microsoft in the UK with learn direct. It’s about $5kNT for the whole course. http://www.learndirect.co.uk/courses/computers-it/microsoft-office/MOS/mos-excel

Has anyone here got any useful Excel tutorial learning experience? What courses did you take, what did you learn, do you have any advice for the beginner?

Just use it to try and perform simple admin type tasks as you go. When you can’t work out how to do something, google it or use the help. Excel is pretty powerful but 99% of the time you’d just be adding up figures and maybe producing some simple pie charts.

Maybe start with a practical real world example like your household budget.

Put all your outgoings in one column and your income in another and do some basic math on it.

Most stuff I’ve ever learned on formal IT training is forgotten within 2 days so just focus on stuff you will actually do with it.

I learned pungnan’s way. I also think I saw a copy of EXCEL FOR DUMMYS at Eslite Books.

Thanks for the info guys. I’m slightly tweaked out by the fact that the course is only 6 hours. I think I may have spent that long following tutorials online already.
I will do what pungnan suggests and start getting at real life tasks.
