Li Ao wears a V mask + sprays "tear gas" in legislature

It was tear gas.

Right! They would most likely just start throwing chairs at each other, beating each other up, or simply start flag waving, banner sessions, whilst shouting illogical, or factually unbased and uneducated chants, that sound no more mature than first school children.[/quote]

on a good day, maybe.

The red “direct action” brigade will probably vote him in as mayor of Taipei.

Yes I was thinking that perhaps if it clearly said “Fire Extinguisher” on it, there is the possibility that it was how Li Ao got inside with it and past security (if there were any).

can you imagine these people running China?

Correct me if I am wrong, but only the LY Disciplinary Committee and the people can suspend or oust a legislator (some kind of recall election). There is no bailff-like figure as with English Parliament and the U.S. Congress. There was a time when they were needed because of fights and now serve only a symbolic purpose.

It wasnt just tear gas Li Ao did. Its what he told KMT legislator Joanna Lei in the verbal spats that elevated the man out of just another common Legislative Yuan antics.

He called her ugly, clueless and whose father spent time in jail for the Lafayettes payoff.

After Lei blasted him for interrupting the proceedings related to an arms bill HER PARTY DONT WANT!

Joanna Lei is one a those KMT bitches that really tick me off, others are Hung Hsiu chu and Lee Ching on. On CCTV, you can always catch her somewhere in mainland China. Is she a legislator of Taiwan or does she work in China?

For telling her off in such unbridled languages, Li Ao deserves some respect. He cant be all that bad in my renewed estimate.

Are you kidding? What the FUCK does her appearance have to do with anything? Clueless? “Your daddy was in jail!” For fuck’s sake. Is this the schoolyard? This from a man who fancies himself, incredibly, as some kind of intellectual?
Li is a twat of the first order. And a vain, self-aggrandizing prick of a man, to boot.
His office called ours today to complain about us describing him as a self-publicizing grandstander. “He wants to be described as a political gadfly” is what they told us. “Go and take a flying fuck at the moon, asshole!” is what we told him. Or something like that. What a halfwitted buffoon.

:bravo: Oh Sandman, you shouldn’t make me laugh like that, it disturbs the neighbours.

A twat of the first order, indeed.

“Li is a twat of the first order. And a vain, self-aggrandizing prick of a man, to boot.”

Never doubt that. But as I have said in my original post, the harlot “blasted Li for interrupting a proceedings related to an arm bill which HER PARTY DONT WANT!”

This is the clueless part which you for some reason see fit to excise from your response.

Because when you think about it, she shouldve just shut the hell up and left the hyperventilating if theres to be any,for the Greens. Its not like antics like this are stranger to the Yuan. Yet this is the kind of attention seeking bitch we re talking about here, she couldnt leave well enough alone. She need to go on the attack and attack mindlessly. She completely conveniently forgot that its her party thats been blocking the arms bill.

I think despite everything, Li Ao rightly called her on it.

Besides if she can dish it out…

Hmmm… Interesting… So. What you’re reeeealy trying to say is…?

so why is it so strange for a KMT legislator to be showing around in China? Isn’t it the Chinese Nationalist Party? No better place for them to be then in China, I would say?

Here’s a video link from CBS.
I can’t figure out why everyone is laughing as he gasses them.

So, when someone brings the legislature and your party into (further) disrepute by using forceful, dangerous, presumably illegal, and undemocratic tactics to achieve an end you agree with, the right thing to do is applaud or at least quietly take advantage of it? The end justifies the means?

That’s like tacitly applauding or taking advantage of the assasination of a democratically elected leader such as Bush because you don’t approve of him.

Freedom of speech, rule of law, democracy and self determination are meant to be values those who don’t want to be part of China are fighting for. If you can’t handle letting the other side have their say, perhaps reunification with an authoritarian state would be the best option for you.

Are you by chance a Taiwanese politician? (apologies in advance if this is counted as slander or name-calling)

Personal observation but it seems people laugh here as a nervous reaction.

That guy should be in jail for a short period of time, and be fined an extravagant amout of money. Then he should be fired. That’s called assault in my book. Shame! What a joke!

Somebody please teach these over-emotional manic depressive schoolyard bullies how a democratic government should work! No wonder the world does not take Taiwan very seriously. Taiwan does not take itself seriously!

I have found two news stories covering the aerosol spraying Li-An that only report that he used some kind of aerosol and that there were only comments from commentators which said he used tear gas" commentators said involved tear gas." Now it seems more likely to me, that there was no tear gas attack as from the picture I saw of the canister and the video footage which showed the gas to immediately evaporate as a gas extinguisher would perform. Tear gas when sprayed seems to be more liquid so as to stick to the clothes or skin of an agressor. There is a video of tear gas being used HERE for reference. I doubt very much that the people in the same room that were closest to the gas in the TV footage that I saw being expelled from the cannister would simply be casually covering their mouths, laughing and then much later walking away, or later be seen chatting through tissue masked mouths. In such a case, then the tear gas was completely uneffective and useless. I saw no signs of pain or distress in the croud other than the shock of seeing Li-An spraying an unknown substance in the air.

Note the casualness of the bystanders and the man sitting in the chair

Of course, the dude did not spray tear gas inside the room. That’s pretty obvious. It would be interesting to know what he was saying when he discharged the spray. Did he say what he was discharging or did he give some warning? Anyway, the whole act was idiotic.

My gf says the Apple Daily staff purchased the same canister that was used by Li Ao. It was, in fact, some kind of self-defense spray at any rate, perhaps capsicum or similar. The said journalists tested it in their own offices, where three small puffs of the stuff filled a large room (bigger than the room Li Ao was in) in less than a minute and caused everyone in the room to suffer irritation and tears from eyes.

Li Ao shot off at least five bursts of his weapon I believe.

Hopefully the exact truth regarding the substance will become clear. For now, I’m leaving ‘tear gas’ in the thread title because it’s more sensationalistic. :smiling_imp:

LA, he’s not a dude. He’s a scumbag. Watch your language.

Hmmmm… now where’s that thread on the reliability of the Taiwan media
