Liberate the flounders

I feel it my duty to call into question the “Flounder Forum”
By what method is it decided that something is a ‘flounder’? I see topics in the flounder forum which have 3 or 4 pages of responses. In contrast I could point to many topics which have prompted 0 responses, despite weeks or months of open access.
I challenge the mods with the following: The flounder forum is, at times, used to negate certain topics which they deem too low-brow/ too controversial. See the recent movings of “My arse, My tiny Penis, and Onions,” ( I am not talking about the flame forum here)
Obviously these are purile threads, aimed merely at juvenile nob gags, etc. But why should they be demoted to the flounder forum?
I say, leave them as they are, and let nature take its course.
Don’t police this web site.
Patterson.

Any topics that are too low-brow/controversial/purile and/or juvenile nob gags are routinely floundered.

Thanks for the feedback, but there’s no way this website is going to become the website of the lowest common denominator.

Recently parts of threads are getting dumped in the flounder forum as well. This is a good thing. By weeding out the crap in this way threads can stay on topic (more or less) and people don’t have to sift through the rubbish to get to the good stuff.

At the risk of sounding like a kiss-ass I think the mods are doing a pretty good job keeping the forums crap free.

Spack, I agree that the mods are doing a good job, you lil kiss ass! Just kidding.
I also thank chairman mao for his esteemed reply.
However, my point, which should have been made clearer, ( I apologise) is that the “Open” forum should be the place for the urbane, the stupid, and the down-right idiotic. People obviously enjoy such banter as it provokes responses. Of course Maoman doesnt want to turn his website into a joke. But there are plenty of other forums on this web-site where we can be serious. Allowing silly threads to remain won’t turn posters into babbling fools, or challenge the integrity of the website as a whole.

Its not sour grapes, seriously. Even though, ‘Top ten Afghan oud songs’ remains on the Arts and Entertainment forum!!! I just want to make the point that if you have an ‘open’ forum, why not let it remain ‘open’.
Don’t be afraid of the thing you have created Maoman, let it run free, like a big ugly drunk baby.

B-ut what’s the prob-lem with thin-------gs goin-g in- the Floun-der Forum?- It’s n-ot like they dissapear or an-ythin-g. You can- still read them. I don-'t see what the b-ig deal is. N-o cen-sorship. Your posts have just b-een- moved. This makes the rest of the forum more useful.

PS Floun-der = something that is n-ot goign anywhere (floundering) or smells fishy.

(Sorry ab-out all the ----- I think I need a new keyboard)

Brian

You are perfectly free to read and post about your arse in the flounder forum. But be honest, is your arse really worth keeping for ever ? It’s not THAT good, your arse does smell like a flounder.
There are some not so useless threads that I wonder why they are in there (except double posts), but your arse isn’t one of them, :s

Does this have anything to do with what you Brits call “Free Willy”?

You want to “liberate” the “flounder”.

Liberate it if you wish, just not in front of me.

i agree with patty…some flounders belong in the open forum like my famous germaine greer thread which did not at all smell like flounder and had quite a respectable life…by moving something to the flounders it seems a judgement that your post is not worthy of further discussion by the general population…but sure anything arse related can flounder away (unless it’s j-lo’s of course)

I think most of the better threads were split off from other topic. A moderator comes across a single off-topic post about Germaine Greer and shruberies, where to put it ? At the time, the flounder forum looks like the only place it belongs, then that single post grows into a thread of its own. Like a little acorn grows into an great big… acorn tree. If it does turn out to be a decent thread, I suppose some could save it, or bits of it. Maoman is the only one who can do that.

If you want to play you can always start a thread as a flounder.

Thank you’s go to Bear64 and Bassman. Big up yourselves. :notworthy:

If double or triple threads end up in the Flounder forum, wouldn’t it make sense to lock them? Otherwise, we get the same kind of discussion twice in two different places when people answering to the thread in the Flounder forum don’t realize that there is the same thread somewhere else.

Just a suggestion…

Iris[/quote]Maybe, but if I flounder a duplicate thread, I always say way in the post. If a post was a glitch, maybe we should just delete it, because it wasn’t meant to exist, it is a freak of nature and should be put out of its misery as soon as possible. Flounder cross posts maybe, because they were meant to exist by their creator (albeit mistakenly)
