Look, I’m just gonna say it: Life in Taiwan is better than the West, and here’s why. Y’all can try to fight me in the comments, but we all know it’s true:
Safety: Sorry, but where else can I walk around at 3 a.m. without feeling like I’m in a crime thriller? Taiwan is safe, really safe. You can leave your phone on a table in a crowded café, take a nap, come back, and guess what? It’s still there. Try that in… well, any major Western city!
Convenience on steroids: 7-Elevens are not your regular convenience stores. You can mail packages, pay bills, buy tickets, even get a gourmet meal - all without having to deal with DMV-level service. Ever tried paying a bill in the West? Yeah, thought so.
Efficient Healthcare (Jiǎnbǎo, baby!): In Taiwan, healthcare doesn’t mean bankruptcy. You pay a few hundred NTD, and boom, you’re treated. In the West? Better take out a second mortgage for that ER visit!
Food? Better. Cheaper. Street food in Taiwan? Michelin-star level without the Michelin-star prices. Not to mention it’s everywhere. A Western burger joint will charge you $20 for a basic burger, while Taiwan’s got gourmet xiaolongbao for a fraction of that price.
Transport on point: Not only is Taiwan’s transport always on time (looking at you, West), but it’s fast, reliable, and affordable. Ever tried to catch a train in Europe that’s actually on time? Yeah, me neither.
Cost of living: Taiwan doesn’t require you to sell your soul just to pay rent. In the West? You need a roommate, a side hustle, and probably a GoFundMe just to afford housing. Taiwan’s rent and day-to-day expenses are refreshingly reasonable in comparison.
Cost of gas/petrol: In Taiwan, filling up your tank doesn’t feel like a personal financial crisis. Petrol prices here are way more reasonable than in the West, where you practically need to take out a loan just to keep your car running.
People safety: In Taiwan, we say goodbye to random public confrontations or “Karen” moments. Everyone’s chill, polite, and minding their own business. It’s like living in a land where people have manners. Imagine!
But yeah, keep telling me how the West offers a “better quality of life.” I’ll just be over here enjoying my bubble tea, on-time trains, affordable healthcare, cheaper petrol, and a life where I don’t need to sell a kidney to pay for internet.
Some jaded people who live here who think the West offers a better life. They always bang on about it. It’s obvs not everyone but some people. These are kinds of people who live decently in Taiwan but would be living in a sharehouse in the West.
The food here is fantastic. Sure it isn’t all my cup of tea either. But name any Western country that has Taiwan’s level of affordable, diverse and tasty food where you can eat out every day?
Fair enough. I can’t speak for Italy too much. However, let’s look at this discussion in the context of the broader West, specifically, The USA, The UK , Canada, and Australia
