Life Insurance for Foreigners

Hi all,
We’re interested in getting life-insurance. We’re both foreigners, so would it be possible for us to get life-insurance in Taiwan?
Thanks for any info.

Jean is my agent. She’s bilingual, friendly and very helpful.

Tell her Steve sent you.

You can get insurance, but bang for your buck your better to buy in Canada or America. The premiums here are insulting for thepayable death benefit. All financial advisors will tell you go term for the coverage you need. Do not buy it as an investment. If it is health insurance you need, your employer in Taiwan should help you for around 1500/month. On average you can expect to pay NT35,000 per year for 20 years for a payable death payment of 10,000usd (Yes, ten thousand. Just enough to cover burial expenses).
If you are from Canada or the States take out a renewable term policy with your bank of a year or 2 for the coverage you need and then readjust as your situation warrants. Some banks will give cover you 250K with no medical checkup. You can buy term insurance for usd20 per month and be covered for usd250,000. After 2 years you can adjust up or down. Many insurance sellers will tell you not to go this way simply because they dont get a commission. Good luck.

Anything is right about this.

But if you are already here and now you’ve decided you need insurance, then do call Jean Chen at Prudential (as noted above).

I’m getting term life and additional health insurance that includes a daily payment if I am hospitalized or otherwise unable to work.

My rule about investments and insurance is simple:

If you want protection, buy insurance.

If you want an investment, buy mutuals funds or savings bonds or whatever… but not insurance.

Now that I’ve got a wife, a house, and kids, I’m looking to buy some term life insurance to cover us during the next 15 years or so. I’d like to have a cushion until I’ve had enough time to save up a sizeable nest egg.

My question is, if I buy a term life insurance in the United States, will it cover me if I should happen to die while in Taiwan?

The premiums in the US are much less than what they are here, and the coverage amount is a lot higher too. I don’t want to take out a policy here when it’s so much more affordable in the US. At the same time, I’m worried about the insurance company not paying up since I am not living in the US at this time.

Anybody have any experience with this type of scenario? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
