Seems like testing has begun on the Sanying (Light Blue) line.
I saw a train sitting at the (incomplete) Yingge MRT station today and did some searching. Seems that testing started back in October.

The availability of toilets is one of my favourites things about the Taipei MRT. And they aren’t vandalised with piss all over the floor like the few toilets at London Underground stations generally are.
Or missing the fucking seat like in Italy because people stand on them and break them.
What I would give for people here in Taiwan NOT to carry prams or luggage up or down the escalators…
And they dont charge you to use their shit hole toilets like in london.
And you wont get stabbed for trying to use the toilets like in london.
Etc etc
If I pay, I expect the toilets to smell like lemons or I am taking my shit elsewhere.
Actually, Network Rail banned busy stations from charging people to use their toilets and, as I understand it, all train stations in London that have toilets don’t charge anymore. But, yes, I remember the days of having to fork out 50p to use a horror movie toilet with piss all over the floor and no toilet roll or handwash very well.
What do you mean, the train stations that have toilets? Not all stations have toilets in London?!?! ![]()
What about the big stations like Waterloo and Victoria? Those are the ones i usually used. That’s an improvement if they are free now, just gotta tackle the stabbing next.
A lot of the tube was built in the mid to late 1800s. Toilets weren’t a massive priority at that time.
Most stations in Milan do not.
Not only are they now free, but Victoria, at least (I haven’t used the toilets at Waterloo in years), is well maintained too.
Life on the MRT has involved a scaled discount for frequent riders after then Mayor Ko cut the across-the-board 20% discount which had been offered to Easy Card users since I believe it was launched.
Well there have been rumblings lately about the current scaled discount scheme being cut entirely as the MRT system deals with higher operating costs. It appears now that the scaled discounting scheme will continue, but with reduced discounts and unchanged basic fares. Starting on March 1, if one uses a single Easy Card, the discounts will reportedly look like this:
The T-Pass system beloved by some forumosans will reportedly remain unchanged.

So the double file standing seems to be in effect in busy stations.
I just wonder why they do not ask people to stand on each step?
If the goal is efficiency you can move double the amount of people by standing on each step instead of every other. Theres room for it too for most people. Most Taiwanese dont take up a huge amount of space.
There’s no room for one per step because those steps move to overlap once moving up the slope
It would also be extremely dangerous at the top (or bottom) with little room for error and lots of room for trouble. ![]()

29 out there today according to my phone and the people working at the MRT didnt get the memo I guess cus i am sweating my ass off in the station. If i knew it was gonna be like this i would rode a scooter instead.
I need to jump in the shower.
What the hell was that loud music polluting every part of the station this morning? I got on at Taipower, got off at Ximen, and every time the doors opened on the way my ears were assailed with the sound. I don’t know if it was just the Green Line or if it was system-wide.
This need for constant unnecessary noise really grinds my gears. I don’t expect the MRT to be a sanctum of silence, but if they can keep stinking food and drinks out of it, surely they can also discourage the specimens playing tinny crap on their phones by not doing the same over the station speaker system.
