Because it is a MAASIVELY expensive venture. And when it comes to health care related things, at least in countries like Taiwan, once it is given it is political suicide to take it away. A great case in point is cancer and how little is covered by NHI despite other government agencies and eegukations likely being a root cause for having the disease in the first place.
My money is on them nit wanting peoole talking too deeply about it and revealing how fucked up the governemnts actions (or inactions) are, and certainly don’t want to strain a system (nhi) harder than it already is. The whole public health system here is going to go through some pretty hard realities as time progresses. Not just on age but actual health of the populace. Be it both khysical or mental (ie. Hypochondriacs taxing the already taxed system).
