Haven’t looked but it must be huge list
updated the list : ) Cafe/Co-Working spaces Taipei - Contribution welcome - Google Sheets
what’s interesting is that coffee shops start becoming some sort of co-working space.
Very helpful! Thanks!
Hey thanks for putting this together.
I’ve been to a few of these.
I liked Hive the best but sadly it’s closed now.
Futreward used to be quite good back in the day and felt like a bustling place full of activity and events, but last time I went there it felt so dead.
A bunch of these places have no windows which is a non-starter for me - I can’t work somewhere with no natural light. A lot of them have cheapo plastic chairs and MDF tables too which I can’t really vibe with if I’m gonna be sitting there all day.
SkyCo is pretty good, been to a couple of them. Nice, light spaces with lots going on.
JustCo Collective at Taipei Dome looks nice, not seen this one before, but off-putting that they don’t have pricing on their site and instead have an enquiry form where they ask what your budget is. I also just tried calling them and they refuse to give the price over the phone too, say their sales team needs to talk to you about what your needs are first. Red flag for me, I don’t like places without transparent pricing.
Share Lounge looks like it could be nice. I will check that out.
And the most promising new one to me looks like Day 1 Taipei. Seems catered towards westerners and expats. I like the open plan office space that seems to have a lot of natural light in the pics. But to me it looks more expensive than it should be, it costs more than the Hive did, and the space doesn’t look as nice or as big. However I like that it has both quiet areas and non-quiet spaces where talking is encouraged.
That’s the bit I don’t like about many co-working spaces - feels like noise is completely banned in a lot of them. I’d prefer to work in a coffee shop where I can actually take a call once in a while or talk to a colleague if needed. And actually get a decent coffee!
There’s also a place in the old stadium by MRT Yuanshan. Can’t remember the name right now but I’ll fill it in next time I pass by. Can rent by the hour/day too (max. 400/day last year)
And Workspot opened a second location with freshly-built interior about 2 years ago by the MRT Songjiang Nanjing
The only coworking space I’ve used in Taipei is The Singularity between Taipei Main Station and National Taiwan University Hospital Station, which is not on the spreadsheet. It’s very good but I was hoping for somewhere that has more of a sense of community if you go every day, which I did for a couple of weeks. I’d be curious if such a place exists - i.e. a setup more conducive to “water cooler moments”, non-silent areas where people can chat, etc.
I’ve been there. I liked it, but not as somewhere I’d go all the time. Great place to do focused quiet work, apparently coders love it there. Good facilities, but for me the lack of natural light kept me from going more than I did. I think I actually went in the evenings.
This is exactly it. Perhaps Taipei just isn’t the kind of place where you can reasonably expect to find a co-working space where a foreigner with poor Chinese can simply walk up to someone he sees there every day and shoot the shit with them, but The Singularity definitely doesn’t encourage this kind of thing. But even in Starbucks I usually eventually get to know the staff and some of the regulars, so I’d really like to go to a co-working space with that kind of atmosphere.
The Hive was like that. It was fantastic. Great people, great space in a lovely old building, free access to it’s sister spaces in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand if you were a member. Then it closed due to the government reclaiming the building.
why they didn’t try to open an other one? not profitable enough?
Give a try to collaplay.
if you’re solo working on your project: https://hackapei.com/ the vibe is great when we’re there on Thursday (we usually do it at collaplay)
This sounds great! I’d love to go the next time I’m in town.
There was talks about them trying to find a new space but nothing came of it. Hive is an international company with coworking spaces based in quite a few other Asian countries and Australia, maybe they just cut their losses and focused attention elsewhere. Or maybe (and hopefully) they’ll open somewhere in Taipei in the future, because it’s a shame they’re not here anymore.
